First pitch of today’s Arizona Diamondbacks game is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET later this evening. However, they’ll be forced to deal with the absence of their leadoff bat as Ketel Marte has now been scratched from the D-Backs’ lineup.

The star second baseman was scratched roughly an hour and a half prior to first pitch vs. the New York Mets. The reason has not yet been announced. However, he was scratched pre-game earlier this season due to a back issue, so it could potentially be a similar reason here tonight.

It’s been a very rough start to the season for Marte, who’s slashing just .209/.262/.353 in what’s clearly a career-worst year so far. He’s hit just five home runs as well, likely as a result of just a 55th-percentile barrel rate.

The Diamondbacks are 17-19 on the year and just 3-7 over their last 10 games. As things stand, they’re in third in the division at 5.5 games shy of the Los Angeles Dodgers for first.
