Garion Thorne dives into tonight’s nine-game MLB DFS slate to find three value options for your DraftKings lineups.

It’s not often we have a Wednesday night slate populated by this many games, but you won’t hear me complaining.

If the weather hold — always a risk this early in May — we’ve got nine contests this evening, with the action getting going at 6:40 p.m. ET in Detroit, Miami and Philadelphia.

Let’s find some values for your lineups on DraftKings.

SP Bailey Ober, Minnesota Twins at Washington Nationals, $7,200

If I’m being 100% honest, this pick has so little to do with Bailey Ober. If a random 50-year-old man was suddenly the expected starter for the Twins against the Nationals, I’d have to seriously contemplate that guy’s value in this great a matchup. Washington simply can not hit. Across the past two weeks, the Nationals rank dead-last in batting average (.204), wOBA (.275) and wRC+ (70). If that wasn’t enough, the team also possesses the league’s highest strikeout rate in that same span of time (27.3%). Saying it’s a “great” matchup might have somehow been underselling it.

Still, if you want to give Ober a little credit, it’s not too difficult. The right-hander has reeled off three straight quality starts. It’s a stretch where Ober has thrown 18.1 innings and surrendered only three earned runs. Not too shabby. Look for that success to continue in Washington.

OF MJ Melendez, New York Mets at Colorado Rockies, $3,700

This is one of those situations where I don’t know which of the following is the stranger circumstance. Is it more wild to be able to get a team’s No. 3 hitter into your lineup for less than $4,000 at Coors Field? Or that said No. 3 hitter on a $330 million payroll is MJ Melendez? That’s up to you to decide, I guess.

To be fair, Melendez has been quite good in his limited opportunity with New York. The veteran outfielder is slashing .297/.366/.541 with a 156 wRC+ in his 42 plate appearances in 2026. More importantly, Melendez is left-handed. Michael Lorenzen ($5,200) has not been able to pitch effectively to LHBs this season — at all. Regardless of setting, lefties have combined to hit .417 off the right-hander with an eye-popping .750 slugging percentage and .512 wOBA. Those are video game numbers. Lorenzen is working with an extra day of rest after Tuesday’s PPD, but I don’t think that’s going to fix all this.

OF Trevor Larnach, Minnesota Twins at Washington Nationals, $3,200

Let’s get Ober some run support, right?

I’m a little perplexed as to why Larnach’s price tag is so low on Wednesday. The former first-round pick will certainly be hitting in the two-spot in the lineup behind Byron Buxton ($5,900), yet he’s almost half the cost? Seems off. Especially when you consider how effective Larnach has been against RHPs so far this year. In his 81 plate appearances within the split, Larnach is slashing .338/.469/.462 with a 165 wRC+. Maybe the outfielder hasn’t showcased that much raw power, but it’s hard to argue with the statistical results.

Then there’s the matter of Miles Mikolas ($5,500). The term “washed” might not be harsh enough. Over 27.1 innings, the veteran RHP is in possession of a 8.23 ERA and a 6.77 FIP. Mikolas is allowing 2.63 home runs per nine with a 12.4% opponent barrel rate. To be blunt, he just should not still be pitching at the MLB level. I think that much is clear.
