The Pete Dye-designed TPC River Highlands (par 70, 6,844 yards, Bentgrass/Poa greens) in Cromwell, Connecticut, is hosting the Travelers Championship. TPC River Highlands has been the host of the Travelers since 1984 and Keegan Bradley (-15) is the defending champion of this event after winning by one stroke a year ago. The Travelers is the eighth and final Signature Event of the season. There is a $20 million purse up for grabs and there will be 72 players competing this week with no cut.

Below, I have featured my two favorite bets for the Travelers Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Xander Schauffele over Ludvig Aberg (-128)

I am confidently backing Schauffele in this tournament matchup vs. Aberg. Schauffele’s game is trending up right now, whereas Aberg’s play has been questionable. In their last three starts, Schauffele has finished T-7, T-29 and T-11, while Aberg has finished T-17, 39th and T-17.

Schauffele ranks 12th in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 12 rounds while Aberg ranks 27th. Schauffele’s course history at TPC River Highlands is also far better than Aberg. Schauffele won by two shots at this par 70 in 2022 and he has finished inside the top-20 in 5-of-7 starts at TPC River Highlands. Aberg, on the other hand, has never finished better than T-24 in three starts at this Dye track.

Aberg is only gaining 0.52 strokes per round at TPC River Highlands, which doesn’t even compare to Schauffele at 1.38, which is the sixth-best in this field. Additionally, Schauffele is gaining 1.52 strokes per round at Northeast courses, compared to Aberg at just 0.8.

Justin Thomas for a top-10 finish including ties (+230)

Thomas knows his way around TPC River Highlands very well. The 33-year-old has finished inside the top-10 at this venue each of the last three years and he also finished T-3 here in 2016. Thomas has fired off two 8-under 62s and one 7-under 63 at TPC River Highlands, and he ranks 11th in this field in strokes gained per round at the par 70.

Thomas returns to TPC River Highlands playing strong golf, finishing 13th, T-4, T-13, T-19 and T-17 in his last five starts. Thomas ranks fourth in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and at the grueling Shinnecock Hills for the U.S. Open this past week, he shot under par in two rounds and he gained strokes on approach and with his putter.

Thomas looks ready to contend at TPC River Highlands this week and I love backing him for a top-10 finish at these +230 odds.
