Below, I’ll provide a Ducks vs. Oilers Game 4 prediction and pick.
There is a reason that the game’s total is set at O/U 7.5 goals. When both teams have poor defenders and suspect goaltending, goals will be scored often, and that’s been the theme in Ducks vs. Oilers thus far. There have been a combined 28 goals across three games this series, with 20 of them coming at even strength. The three regular-season meetings featured a combined 28 goals, too, so the theme is quite clear. Each team has totaled eight power play opportunities, with Anaheim converting four of them for a playoff-leading 50% power play percentage. The Ducks have adjusted to postseason hockey well with 13 goals across their last two games, but you can only hold down the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl for so long.
I’m expecting some superhero activities from those two to avoid a 3-1 deficit. Draisaitl has notched at least two points in each of the first three games, while McDavid has been rather quiet with just one goal and one assist. Still, the goaltending is far too leaky on both sides to assume the offenses won’t find chances. Lukas Dostal sports a measly 4.05 GAA and .875 SV% and ranks dead last among postseason goaltenders in goals saved above expected. Connor Ingram ranks second-to-last in that category and sports an even worse 4.70 GAA and .849 SV%.
While I think this is another high-scoring affair, O/U 7.5 is a scary total, and O/U 6.5 is a bit too juiced for my liking. The Ducks missed this mark in Game 1 by one goal, but they’ve scored 13 total across the last two games.
Draisaitl has recorded 2+ points in each game this series and in 12 of his past 16 meetings against Anaheim.
