WrestleMania 42 begins in two days! WWE’s biggest event of the year kicks off on April 18, and WrestleMania Saturday is the first of a two-day WrestleMania. This is the seventh consecutive two-day WrestleMania, and the second straight, taking place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Saturday’s WrestleMania 42 card is stacked with four title matches and three additional marquee showdowns. The first night of WrestleMania 42 is headlined by Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Undisputed Championship.
WrestleMania is also known as ‘The Showcase of the Immortals’ and ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’. Legacy-defining moments are made every year at WrestleMania, and this year’s is even bigger, as it is the first part of WWE’s partnership with ESPN. WrestleMania 42 is airing on ESPN Unlimited, but the first hour of WrestleMania Saturday is also available on ESPN 2. Check out my predictions for each match on the WrestleMania Saturday card below.
Over the last 19 years, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton have created a ton of history between themselves. Rhodes entered WWE in 2007 as a multi-generational wrestler, and Orton took him under his wing, creating the group ‘Legacy’. Although the two faced off at Night of Champions last year, it was in the King of the Ring Final and wasn’t a part of a long-term story. This is the 12th singles match between Orton and Rhodes. Rhodes vs. Orton is student against teacher, but the roles have changed.
Orton used to be Rhodes’ mentor and was a top guy while Rhodes was still new to the business. The gap between them was wide for many years. But now, in the current day, they stand toe to toe as equals. Rhodes has been the top guy in WWE over the last two years and is main-eventing his fourth consecutive WrestleMania. Meanwhile, Orton is the one who is attempting to re-climb the mountain and become champion for the first time in six years. Cody’s entrance song says “wrestling has more than one royal family”, and those lyrics come to the forefront when thinking of this matchup. Orton and Rhodes come from two of the greatest wrestling families in professional wrestling history.
Although the addition of Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll has clouded this storyline leading to Mania, when that bell rings, it will still be not only two of the greatest wrestlers today but of all time. Although Rhodes has Main Evented multiple Manias in a row, he has often come up short. Rhodes is 1-3 in WrestleMania Main Event matches over the last three years. I think that trend continues as all signs point to Orton winning his 15th Championship.
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton Prediction: Randy Orton defeats Cody Rhodes to win the WWE Undisputed Championship.

Liv Morgan is trying to become a three-time Women’s World Champion, but she faces a tough test against Stephanie Vaquer. Although this is Morgan’s fifth WrestleMania match, it is her first singles match on the grandest stage of them all. Since becoming a heel with the Judgment Day over the last few years, Morgan has done an excellent job and has had a good title reign. But this seems to be a crowning achievement, as she has never had a WrestleMania moment yet. Up until this point, Vaquer has beaten everyone in her path, but this version of Morgan might be too much for her to handle.
Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan Prediction: Liv Morgan defeats Stephanie Vaquer to become the Women’s World Champion.
This is AJ Lee’s first match at WrestleMania since 2015 and is her first singles match at WrestleMania. Lee is 1-0 against Becky Lynch in singles competition. This is the third match in the last seven months involving Lee and Lynch. Since winning the Women’s Intercontinental title, Lee has only defended it once, making it unlikely for her to lose it so soon.
AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch Prediction: AJ Lee retains her title against Becky Lynch.
Although this match came together in the last few weeks, it has the potential to be one of the best matches of the weekend. This will be Rollins’ 10th singles match at WrestleMania, and he is 3-6 in those matches. After losing his title to Jey Uso at last year’s WrestleMania, Gunther has bounced back with victories over John Cena and AJ Styles in the final matches of their careers. Although Rollins has come back with new energy and motivation, it seems like his rivalry with the Vision isn’t finished. A win for Gunther here would firmly put him back into the title picture heading into the Summer.
Seth Rollins vs. Gunther Prediction: Gunther defeats Seth Rollins.
Four teams will battle for the Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 42. Although each team possesses a legit threat, the champions, Nia Jax and Lash Legend, have a power advantage that makes the difference in this contest. They have held the titles for under 50 days, and it seems like their reign will continue for much longer.
Women’s Tag Team Championship Match Prediction: The Irresistible Forces retain the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Even though there isn’t a championship on the line, Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre is one of the best matches at this year’s WrestleMania. They have created an incredible rivalry over the last few months. Since Fatu returned, he has been on a warpath against McIntyre, making it his mission to ensure he loses his title. The winner of this match will seemingly put themselves in a prime position for a title shot after WrestleMania.
Fatu beat LA Knight for the United States Championship last year, which was his first WrestleMania. Meanwhile, this is McIntyre’s 12th match at WrestleMania. Since 2019, McIntyre is 4-3 at WrestleMania. Last year, McIntyre beat Damian Priest in a Sin City Street Fight, so he is accustomed to this style of match at WrestleMania. Although McIntyre is the more experienced wrestler, Fatu can gain more with a victory than McIntyre. After winning at last year’s WrestleMania, Fatu lost his last two singles matches at a premium live event.
Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre Prediction: Jacob Fatu defeats Drew McIntyre.
After Logan Paul and Austin Theory from The Vision defeated The Usos for the Tag Team titles, their feud has continued. LA Knight has been intertwined in this story as he shared a hatred of The Vision with The Usos. This is the first time the Usos have teamed together at WrestleMania since WrestleMania 39 in 2023. Their last victory at WrestleMania together was at WrestleMania 38. Since they recently lost their titles, this is a good opportunity for the Usos to get back on track alongside Knight.
Logan Paul, Austin Theory & IShowSpeed vs. The Usos & LA Knight Prediction: The Usos & LA Knight pick up the victory.
