There was no better threat on the power play across the NHL this season than Wyatt Johnston, who racked up 27 goals on the man advantage during the regular season. He’s now added two more to that tally during the postseason, one of which was a beautiful tip-in right in front of the net to win Game 3 of this series in double overtime. The 22-year-old talent clearly learned a thing or two from Joe Pavelski, who mentored him when they shared a locker room (and a house, for a time) in Dallas a few seasons ago. There have been a staggering 32 power-play chances in this series in three games, with 17 of those coming for the Stars. Johnston will assume the net-front role for plenty of those and remains an even-strength threat with 45 total goals in the regular season, plus an empty-netter in Game 2 to make it three goals in three games.
Sidney Crosby and the Penguins are on the brink of elimination as they face the possibility of a series-losing sweep at the hands of the Flyers. Wow, did anyone have that penciled in on their brackets? It would be pretty shocking if they go down without winning a single game in this series, but it would be even more surprising if Crosby didn’t score at least one goal in it. Despite logging a team-high 10 shots, the living legend hasn’t found the back of the net yet. That’s bound to change if he keeps firing away, especially after finishing at an 18.1% clip during the regular season. He’s bound to put one puck through a gap in the defense at some point, and given the stakes involved tonight, I fully expect him to come out energized with some fire in his eyes. Given the volume and pedigree, I love +200 odds on an anytime goal for Crosby.
