Blake Krass gives his best bet, pick and prediction for Friday’s FIFA World Cup match between Egypt and Iran.
Egypt has a chance to clinch Group G with a win in this match against Iran. Even a draw could be enough to secure the group for the Egyptians. Meanwhile, Iran could also win the group if they beat Egypt, and has a chance to get through to the knockout stage with a draw. It should be a great match as these two nations vie for spots in the Round of 32.
Here are the odds for the match:
Let’s dive into my favorite bet for this match.
This has been a dream start for Egypt’s World Cup campaign. Egypt made the World Cup for the first time in 20 years in 2018, but disappointingly lost all three group stage matches. They then failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2022. The Egyptian squad made it back to the World Cup here in 2026 and has made the most of it. They will make it out of the group stage for the first time in the nation’s history, not including 1934, when the team made the “Round of 16,” but there were only 16 teams in the entire tournament. The entire team has played great, but Egypt captain Mo Salah has been the difference maker. He assisted the goal against Belgium and had a goal and an assist against New Zealand. Having a world-class player among a hard-working, well-schooled group makes Egypt a dangerous team in this tournament.
It has been an up-and-down tournament for Iran so far. However, the most important thing is that they have entered this final match with a chance to earn a spot in the knockout stage. Iran did an impressive job of coming back from two deficits against New Zealand to get a result. They then got a pivotal point against Belgium as well, but were unable to take advantage of having a man advantage for the last 23 minutes of the match. Now, they have a real chance to advance to the knockout stage with a win in this match. Even a draw could be enough with them on three points. Mehdi Taremi is the key to this match for Iran. The Iranian striker has had a quiet tournament so far, but he has the quality to create a goal out of nowhere, in the same way that Mo Salah can for Egypt.
My best bet is on Egypt to win the match. At plus-money, I’ll gladly take the team that has looked the most dangerous in this tournament. Iran had to battle back from two deficits to get a result against New Zealand, a team that Egypt comfortably beat 3-1. It was an impressive result for Iran against Belgium, but they never really looked like a threat to score. Egypt has been very impressive throughout this tournament and should be highly motivated to get all three points and win the group. The vibes around this team seem great, with the team celebrating with fans in the streets and Mo Salah being hoisted on his teammates’ shoulders. Egypt should keep riding this wave and leaning on its world-class talent on the right wing.
