Newcastle suffered a major loss with Alexander Isak leaving for Liverpool last summer. However, most of the team is the same as last year, plus the additions of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa. Wissa has dealt with injuries and Woltemade has struggled with consistency, causing both to not be featured much lately. Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon have been the standout players for Newcastle this season, but they will need to do something special to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners have let their big lead atop the Premier League slip away. Over Arsenal’s last six matches in all competitions, they have four losses, one win and one draw. They were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton, lost the EFL Cup final against Manchester City and most recently, lost the Premier League game of the season against Manchester City. That loss at the Etihad brought the Blues level on points with Arsenal atop the Premier League. There are just five Premier League games left for Arsenal, and they will need to be flawless to hope to beat out Manchester City for the title. In the midst of all of that, Arsenal will be competing in the Champions League semi-finals. This will be the biggest few weeks of Mikel Arteta’s career as he tries to finally win one, or maybe even two major trophies for Arsenal.

My best bet for this match is for Arsenal and Newcastle to combine for under 2.5 total goals. Arsenal are the best defensive team in the Premier League, allowing just 26 goals in 33 matches this season. Newcastle have struggled to create goals as of late, not scoring more than one goal in any of their last five domestic matches. Arsenal should be defensively sound, as always, and keep a clean sheet against Newcastle. Meanwhile, Arsenal has also struggled to score goals recently. Arsenal has not scored more than one goal in any of their past six matches in all competitions. These are two teams, both struggling to get positive results due to a lack of goal-scoring. Arsenal will be terrified to make a mistake and should keep a clean sheet, but not be too aggressive going forward. That should lead to a 1-0 or 2-0 Arsenal win, keeping this game under the total.
