Dan Johnson takes you through his preview, prediction, and best bet for today’s baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves (27-13) and Dodgers (24-15) close this series in Los Angeles with Atlanta trying to finish a difficult West Coast swing the way it played Saturday night: sharp early, physical through the middle of the order, and comfortable letting its pitching staff protect a game state. The Dodgers still have the kind of top-end bats that can bend any matchup, but this is not their deepest version. Teoscar Hernández and Will Smith are sitting, Mookie Betts remains absent, and Atlanta gets a chance to leave town with another loud win after hammering Blake Snell for five early runs in Saturday’s 7-2 victory. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Justin Wrobleski’s surface line is the reason Los Angeles is priced like the clear favorite. He is 5-0 with a 1.25 ERA, only 15 strikeouts, a 3.8 K/9, and he has allowed just two earned runs over 32 innings across five starts since entering the rotation. That is real run prevention, not something to brush aside. The issue is how much of it is bankable at this price. Wrobleski owns a league-low 10.5% strikeout rate among qualified starters, and the contact indicators carry a regression smell: .232 wOBA allowed against a .325 xwOBA, .222 BACON against a .305 xBACON, 88.8 mph average exit velocity, 40.2% hard-hit rate, and a 6.0% barrel rate. His four-seamer and slider have avoided major damage so far, but a pitcher living on contact, sequencing and soft landings is vulnerable against a Braves lineup that does not need a walk parade to build pressure.
Atlanta’s matchup case starts with the lefty split and gets stronger once the individual bats are separated out. The Braves are hitting .274/.333/.440 with a .773 OPS, 14 HR, 31 doubles, 47 extra-base hits and 67 RBI in 511 PA against left-handed pitching. Ozzie Albies is the split hammer at .381/.394/.635 with a 1.029 OPS, three HR, seven doubles, 10 RBI and only three strikeouts in 66 PA against lefties. Matt Olson brings the best thunder in the order with 13 HR, 35 RBI, a recent 412-foot go-ahead homer in Seattle, and a Statcast sheet built like a cleanup bat should: 93.4 mph average EV, 51.7% hard-hit rate, 19.0% barrel rate, .433 wOBA and .408 xwOBA. Drake Baldwin has been just as important because the rookie’s production is backed by premium impact markers: 91.7 mph average EV, roughly 50% hard-hit rate, 14.0% barrel rate, .388 wOBA, .391 xwOBA, 75.1 mph bat speed, and a nearly 48% ideal attack-angle rate. That is three very different ways to stress a low-whiff lefty before the Dodgers even get to the softer part of their bullpen plan.
The Braves also have enough lower-order damage to keep this from becoming a simple Olson-or-bust angle. Michael Harris II has one of the loudest expected profiles in the game right now: 95.2 mph average EV, 59.4% hard-hit rate, 17.0% barrel rate, .378 wOBA, .424 xwOBA, and 75.0 mph bat speed, and he doubled in a run Saturday. Austin Riley has not fully matched his name value, but a hitter carrying 90.7 mph average EV, 45.2% hard-hit rate and a near-double-digit barrel rate still matters as the fifth bat behind Albies and Olson. Sean Murphy adds another right-handed look, Eli White gives the lineup speed and contact utility, and Mauricio Dubón lengthens the front end after setting the table in this series. Saturday was a useful preview of the shape: Albies and Olson delivered the two-run singles that opened the game, Harris added the RBI double, and Baldwin tacked on another run-scoring hit later. Atlanta can win this with barrels, but it can also win with contact quality turning into pressure because Wrobleski is not missing enough bats to control every inning himself.
The Dodgers’ counterpunch is obvious enough to keep this out of runaway territory. Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Andy Pages, Kyle Tucker and Max Muncy are still a frightening first five, and Pages has already been one of the hottest bats in the series, including the two-run homer that saved Los Angeles from a shutout Saturday. Bryce Elder has to live carefully around all that left-handed force, but his 2026 profile gives Atlanta the steadier starting-pitcher base in this matchup: 3-1, 2.02 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 49 innings, 45 strikeouts, 16 walks, only three HR allowed, plus a Statcast page with .255 wOBA allowed, .269 xwOBA, 38.6% hard-hit rate and a tiny 3.8% barrel rate. That barrel suppression is the separator. Elder does not need to dominate this lineup the way Spencer Strider did; he needs to keep Los Angeles out of the quick three-run swing long enough for Atlanta’s deeper contact profile and fresher late arms to matter.
That is why the best bet is Braves ML +113, playable to +105. Braves F5 +105 is live, but Wrobleski’s pitch-level results have been clean enough that the regression may show up through cumulative contact rather than a first-turn ambush. Braves team total over 4.5 asks for five runs against a Dodgers bullpen that still profiles well, and the full-game over 9.5 needs the Dodgers’ thinned lower half to cooperate too much. The moneyline gets the cleanest version of the handicap: Atlanta has the better price, the better starter-stability argument, the stronger split profile against the opposing starter, and enough batter-specific impact from Albies, Olson, Baldwin and Harris to make Wrobleski’s contact-first run prevention feel overpriced. The way it dies is Wrobleski’s ball-in-play fortune holding for another afternoon while the Dodgers’ left-handed stars punish Elder’s mistakes, but the stronger read is that this is closer to a coin flip than the market implies.
Best bet: Braves ML +113. Projected score: Braves 5, Dodgers 4.
