Joe Ryan, Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox ($9,000) — This will be the second time in a week that Ryan will face the White Sox, so that gives me some hesitation. That said, Munetaka Murakami is out of the lineup, one of the best power sources for Chicago, and the White Sox are third in strikeouts as a team. This is not purely a matchup play, though, as Ryan is having a good season, posting a FIP of 2.58 with a 22% K-BB% and only four home runs allowed in 64.1 innings. He’s put up at least 20 FPTS seven times with a high of 31.1 FPTS.
Emmet Sheehan, Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks ($7,800) — The strikeout rate is a beautiful 27.2% while the K-BB% is 20.7%. But the ERA is 4.7 while the FIP is 4.03. In addition, he’s failed to pitch at least five innings in a start four times and has three single-digit FPTS outings on the season. He has gone over 20 FPTS four times. Sheehan is the mystery box with a nice bow and plenty of bling glued on. What you get when you open the box, nobody knows. I just prefer him over the other lower-priced options.
Zach Neto, Los Angeles Angels vs. Colorado Rockies ($5,000) — Neto has 10 home runs, 42 runs, 27 RBI and eight stolen bases in 270 plate appearances. The strikeout rate is high at 30.4%, but the walk rate is 12.6% while the ISO is .200. Against left-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 135. He faces Kyle Freeland, who has a 6.78 FIP and 11.9% K-BB% against righties. 11 of the 12 home runs allowed have come off the bat of a righty.
Nicky Lopez, Texas Rangers at St. Louis Cardinals ($2,200) — I usually eschew light-hitting infielders with not much speed and a career ISO under .100, but since Lopez returned five games ago, he’s been fantasy relevant. He’s cheap and has put up 8, 8 and 16 FPTS over the last three contests. Michael McGreevy is no world beater with a 4.11 FIP and 11.7% K-BB%.
Randy Arozarena, Seattle Mariners vs. New York Mets ($4,900) — Arozarena has six home runs, 39 runs, 26 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 250 plate appearances. He can score in a variety of ways. He’s failed to score FPTS only nine times this season while putting up at least 20 FPTS nine times with a high of 44 FPTS. Against left-handed pitching, the ISO is .179 with a 125 wRC+. Sean Manaea has a 8.5% K-BB% and 4.49 FIP against righties.
Alex Call, Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks ($3,000) — Call only has 70 plate appearances on the season with 0 home runs and 0 stolen bases. He does have 12 runs and 11 RBI while the walk rate is 15.4% and the strikeout rate is only 11.4%. He’s had much more success against left-handed pitching with nine hits, five runs, five RBI and two walks in 22 plate appearances. The wRC+ is 238 while the ISO is .167. Eduardo Rodriguez has a 7.4% K-BB% and 3.95 FIP against righties.
