The Penguins’ offense has struggled all series and had just four goals in three games heading into their last matchup. However, they finally woke up and scored four goals in Game 4 alone, so perhaps Pittsburgh has been sparked just enough to follow it up tonight. Rickard Rakell has just seven SOG so far, only one of which hit the back of the net. Still, he was one of the most notable scorers on the roster throughout the regular season with 24 goals across 60 games, also finishing third in SOG despite missing 22 contests. His quiet production so far comes as no accident thanks to a strong Flyers defense, but it does seem like he’s bound to see better results sooner rather than later. After ranking third in goals per game during the regular season, it’s unlikely that the Pens are held in check again in the same fashion as in the first three games of the series. Facing elimination, watch for Rakell and his teammates to be aggressive.
Offense hasn’t been the easiest to come by for the Golden Knights in this series against the Mammoth, but I’d still like to target one of their players for an anytime goal tonight. Pavel Dorofeyev scored 37 goals in the regular season and tallied 35 in the season prior, so he’s more than established himself as an offensive threat on this roster. Who has the team lead in shots on goal in this series? He does, actually! Dorofeyev’s eight SOG are more than any other Vegas skater and he comes off back-to-back contests of three SOG. Despite the volume, results are yet to follow. After hitting at a 16.1% clip in the regular season, it feels like we’re beginning to approach the point at which statistical normalization becomes inevitable. Playing on the second line alongside star playmaker Mitch Marner also means Dorofeyev is partnered with someone who can set him up for success. I like him to find the back of the net tonight for his first goal of the series.
