Julian Edlow previews Wednesday’s WNBA matchup between the Las Vegas Aces and Phoenix Mercury.
The Las Vegas Aces will look to rebound quickly from an embarrassing loss on Monday night. Let’s breakdown some betting angles for Wednesday night’s matchup in Phoenix.
If there’s a spot that stands out to get the best effort out of the Aces so far this season, this could be it. Vegas is off an embarrassing 30-point loss to the Wings on Monday night, and will look to bounce back against a struggling Mercury squad. Of course, the Aces have been embarrassed one other time this season — a 33-point loss in the season opener.
Vegas bounced back from that loss by going on the road and defeating the Sparks by 27 points. I’m expecting a similar response this time around, not just because of what happened on Monday night, but also because of that season opener. The Mercury happen to be the team that went into Las Vegas and beatdown the Aces by 33 points, creating a strong double revenge angle on Vegas in this matchup.
I think we see the Aces come out playing with purpose from the jump. A’ja Wilson and company should break this one open early, and I don’t expect them to look back. Since dismantling Vegas in their first game, Phoenix has gone 3-11, with the three wins all over teams that are under .500. The Mercury take a three-game losing streak into Wednesday night to face one of the most talented teams in the WNBA, who should be playing angry.
I like the Aces anyway you want to play them in this one. I like laying the 6.5 points and banking on a beatdown, as well as the double result to grab and early lead and ride it to a victory. If you add Wilson to go for 20+ points to the first half/full game moneyline parlay, you can make it plus-money. Wilson has scored 20 or more points in 11 of her last 12 games, with the outlier being 18 points in Monday’s loss in Dallas. She played only 26 minutes in that game before sitting due to the blowout.
