Zach Thompson gives his top teams to consider for MLB DFS stacks on Monday’s daily fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings.
Major League Baseball has an eight-game Monday night slate for the main DraftKings slate, which starts with the first pitch at 7:10 p.m. ET. Las Vegas Ballpark is silent after the Rockies and A’s offenses thrived in the elevation and the desert air over the weekend, but there are still a few spots that are favorable for some offensive production this Monday. Let’s take a look at the offensive environments and matchups and run down my top three plays in Monday night’s MLB DFS Stacks.
Before we break down all the selections for these contests, let’s define exactly what we’re searching for. An ideal target for MLB DFS stacks is a team well-positioned to score plenty of runs based on its matchup and ballpark. “Stacking” is the strategy of adding multiple players from the same MLB lineup to your roster to boost each other’s production.
Ideally, MLB DFS stacks focus on players who are either back-to-back or from the same part of the lineup to allow positive correlation. Since most run-scoring plays produce fantasy points for multiple players, stacking a high-scoring team can carry your entry to the top of the leaderboard. The key to MLB DFS stacks paying off is finding the perfect matchup to attack, so let’s take a deeper look at the top spots.

Sometimes the top stack is expensive and has to be blended with a bargain stack, but on Monday, the Pirates bring excellent value themselves and also have a very high ceiling against J.T Ginn ($7,700). While the A’s are done in hitter-happy Las Vegas for now, they’ll be back at Sutter Health Park for this contest, and the forecast looks great for bats with temps over 85 and the wind blowing out.
Ginn has a solid 3.15 ERA and 1.15 WHIP on the season, but he has struggled at Sutter Health Park, posting a 4.70 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. Lefties have done most of the damage against Ginn with five homers, a .329 wOBA and a 39.3% hard-hit rate.
All five players listed for this stack will face Ginn from that side of the plate on Monday and will likely be the top four in the Pirates order, plus Callihan as an elite value play. Lowe has 17 homers this season and posted 13+ FPTS in three of his last five games with a pair of long balls. O’Hearn has gone 11-for-48 (.229) with three homers since coming off the IL at the end of May.
Horwitz isn’t a typical speedy leadoff hitter but has posted 8+ FPTS in four of his last six games, averaging 10.2 FPTS per contest. The switch-hitting Reynolds homered and had 23 FPTS on Sunday and is averaging 9.1 FPTS over his last eight games.
The Cubs will host the Rockies after visiting Coors Field last week. Michael Lorenzen ($5,500) will be facing them for a second straight start after holding them to one run on two hits in five innings last Wednesday in Denver. Lorenzen is still sporting a 7.54 ERA on the season after that game, though, and lefties are still hitting .418 against him with a .499 wOBA, four homers, a .299 ISO and a 20% barrel rate.
PCA, Busch and Happ are all on the strong side of those splits with high ceilings against the Rockies. PCA has 10+ FPTS in four of his last five games and is averaging 14.2 FPTS per game over his last 10 games. Busch has 12+ FPTS in four of his last six games as well, averaging 12.0 FPTS over that stretch. Happ is a switch-hitter, who has 14+ FPTS in three of his last five games, averaging 9.8 FPTS per game.
Suzuki is day-to-day after being scratched on Sunday, but he is expected to be able to go on Monday. He has hit safely in 10 straight, averaging 9.6 FPTS with three homers and two doubles. Since Swanson typically hits ninth, he can be part of a wraparound stack, hitting in front of the top of the order when the lineup turns over.
The Tigers are in Houston to take on Kai-Wei Teng ($7,000), who has allowed 15 runs on 17 hits in his last three starts over only 14 innings. Lefties are hitting .324 with a .216 ISO And 59.3% hard-hit rate against Weng this season, so stacking the Tigers lefties makes sense on Monday, especially since this game isn’t in cavernous Comerica Park.
Dingler is the only righty in this stack and can be a solid play behind the plate since he has 13+ FPTS in three of his last five games, highlighted by 42 FPTS last Tuesday. He has totaled 16 homers on the season and is averaging 11.1 FPTS per contest over his last 10. He’s not quite Cal Raleigh, but he’s definitely a slugging option behind the plate.
McGonigle is averaging 8.2 FPTS per game on the season and is hitting .277 with 15 doubles, three triples and four homers in his 68 games, and he’s usually in a prime spot, hitting leadoff. Greene and Carpenter have power upside when they’re rolling, although they have been inconsistent this season.
Keith is an interesting bargain play at the hot corner after hitting his first homer and totaling 28 FPTS on Thursday. He went 0-for-4 in his two games since then but should be back in the lineup and in a good spot against Weng on Monday.
Goodman and Rumfield bring good power production potential at their price points. Rumfield has 9+ FPTS in three straight games and is averaging 7.6 FPTS over his last 10. Goodman is averaging 12.6 FPTS per game over that span, but went 0-for-4 without any FPTS in the series opener on Friday.
McCarthy has missed the last three games with illness, but could return on Saturday and bring excellent upside if he’s back in the leadoff spot. Willi Castro is heating up with 8+ FPTS in four of his last six games and is averaging 8.4 FPTS over his last 10.
One of the best value plays on the evening slate is Rockies rookie Cole Carrigg, who homered on Friday for 18 FPTS. He has 10+ FPTS in three of his four games since his promotion earlier this week after slashing .338/.414/.529 with six home runs and 30 stolen bases in 57 games for Triple-A Albuquerque.
