Alex Hunter details his top Donovan Mitchell player prop for Sunday’s Game 7 between the Cavaliers and Pistons.
The Cavaliers and Pistons are going head-to-head for a win-or-go-home Game 7 on Sunday. The winner will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals to face the Knicks. On DraftKings Sportsbook, the Pistons are favored by 4.5 points for Game 7 and this contest carries a total of 205.5 points.
Let’s dive into my favorite Donovan Mitchell player prop for Sunday’s contest.
Mitchell’s underwhelming work as a playmaker continued in the Game 6 loss to the Pistons, where he finished with just three assists in 37 minutes of work. The veteran has now fallen short of 3.5 assists in all but one of the six games in this series vs. Detroit. Mitchell has stayed under 3.5 assists in 10-of-13 starts this postseason and he is averaging just 7.5 potential assists per game in these playoffs.
With James Harden with the Cavaliers, Mitchell’s role as a playmaker is much weaker than we have seen from him in the past. With Harden on the floor, Mitchell is handling a 17.9% assist rate this season, compared to a 27.6% rate with Harden off.
The Pistons are also a brutal matchup, ranking fourth in defensive rating and fourth-to-last in pace this postseason. Evident by its 205.5-point total, this Game 7 should be a low scoring battle and Mitchell falling short of 3.5 assists in this environment is likely. In the Game 7 win over the Raptors in the first round, Mitchell finished with just one assist in 35 minutes.
