Monday’s slate features a full schedule of games, highlighted by Tarik Skubal continuing his strong run for Detroit, Tanner Bibee building momentum after a bounce-back stretch, and Cam Schlittler leading a strong outing for New York as one of the most consistent starters early this season.
Sugano continues to be extremely lucky on the mound, as his 2.84 ERA is nowhere near his xERA of 5.35 and a 4.73 FIP.
Tolle has been great for the Red Sox and even better when you look at his advanced stats. His 3.38 ERA comes with an xERA of 1.80 and a 2.96 FIP. Skubal has seen a slight dip in his strikeout numbers thus far but he’s still averaging over a strikeout per inning with a 9.3 K/9.
Nola is coming off yet another rough outing, as the Athletics tagged him for six runs on six hits through 4.2 innings. Junk isn’t overpowering hitters but his 3.00 ERA and xERA of 3.56 shows he’s been effective, even with inducing a lot of contact.
Lauer looks as if he’s been pitching well lately, but he has at least a 4.66 xERA in three straight starts. Martinez is currently allowing the lowest hard-hit rate of his career at 29.8%.
Baz is coming off one of his best outings of the season, tossing 5.2 innings against the Astros, allowing one run on six hits and six strikeouts. Schlittler continues to pitch at a Cy Young level, having allowed only one run over his last three starts against the Royals, Red Sox and Rangers.
Cabrera has allowed exactly three runs in four straight starts but has earned a win in two of them.
Bibee has gotten back on track after allowing eight runs to the Braves. Since then he’s made three starts and has allowed only three runs through 17 innings. Wacha has been hit hard over his last two starts, allowing 10 runs on 15 hits through 10.1 innings.
Sporat has allowed seven runs on 10 hits through his last two starts, spanning 9.2 innings. Leahy has given up five home runs in his last three starts.
Yamamoto is averaging well below a strikeout per inning this season, as his 7.6 K/9 is far below his career average of 10.1. Okert will serve as the Astros opener for this game and likely won’t throw more than an inning.
Martin has been extremely lucky on the mound, as his 1.95 ERA comes with an xERA of 4.55 and 48% hard-hit rate. Soriano gave up the most runs of any start this season in his last matchup against the White Sox with three. On the season, he’s still only allowed four total runs through 42.2 innings.
Ritchie will be making his third start of his career, and has allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits against the Tigers and Nationals. Gilbert has been hit hard by righties to this point, as he owns a .365 wOBA against them.
Vasquez is likely due for regression soon, indicated by his xERA of 5.07 and a 2.94 ERA.
