Keagan Smith gives you a preview, prediction and pick for today’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins on Monday’s MLB slate.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have dropped back-to-back games, but they remain atop the MLB standings and are still dominating the sport’s landscape. Tonight, they begin a three-game road trip up north against the Minnesota Twins, who are surprisingly hot at the moment amidst a stretch of seven wins in their last 10 outings. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET.
Here’s a betting prediction and pick for this Guardians vs. White Sox matchup courtesy of MLB odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook.
We all know the story of the Dodgers by now. The MLB’s preeminent superteam, this star-studded roster finally took over bragging rights for the sport’s best record in recent weeks and now sits 49-29 with a shot to be the first to 50 wins tonight. Forgetting a 12-1 drubbing suffered at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles in their last game is the focus for tonight, but the back-to-back losses are more of an exception than the norm with a +133 run differential that paces all other clubs. Los Angeles’ 5.19 runs per game are third most and an OPS of .779 also leads the rest of the field. The Dodgers slash .259/.343/.435 on the year overall, and a line of .270/.353/.453 gives them a boost tonight with an .806 OPS against right-handed pitching. They also have 81 of their 105 home runs in the split, amassing a .176 ISO overall. Beyond that, the club brings an 0.52 BB/K ratio with a 20.5% K% and a 10.6% BB%, both excellent marks.
LHP Eric Lauer gets the start for L.A. today. He has a 2-5 record in 12 games with a 5.37 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and 40 SO across 58.2 IP. The Dodgers’ bullpen behind him is in the sport’s top half with an ERA of 3.84 that ranks 12th, plus a 1.22 WHIP and a 16.3% K-BB%.
Expectations for the Twins were low coming into 2026, but they’re a surprisingly competitive group, all things considered. They’re 11-8 since June began, tied for the fifth-best winning percentage of any MLB club. At 38-41, they’re still below .500 but have won back-to-back outings and are 7-3 over their last 10 matchups, too. The overall run differential sits at -18, but Minnesota averages 4.91 runs per contest, seventh most in the sport. The Twins’ OPS of .735 ranks eighth on a slash line of .247/.323/.412, but facing a lefty tonight means the lesser of their splits at .232/.328/.362 with a .691 OPS. That is a significant dip to the slugging marks, but they have an overall ISO of .164 on the campaign with 22-of-97 homers off southpaws in particular. Finally, Minnesota has an 8.8% BB% with a 21.8% K%.
It’s RHP Zebby Matthews on the bump tonight for the home team. He brings a 3-4 record through seven games with a 4.78 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 43.1 IP. The Twins’ bullpen has the worst ERA in baseball at 5.22 with a 1.54 WHIP and 8.6% K-BB%, so obviously, that side of the pitching staff needs signifcant help.
DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Dodgers as -155 Moneyline favorites on the road today. The Twins are home underdogs at +129 odds to win outright with the run total set at 10.
I’m on the Dodgers’ scoring big time in this matchup. For starters, just look at their splits against righties this season. The .806 OPS ranks first among all clubs with a .311 BABIP, and a .191 ISO in that split also sits second behind only the New York Yankees. Likewise, the hard-hit rate of 38.8% against RHP also paces the sport, too. Matthews’ 1.18 WHIP is good, but his ERA leaves something to be desired and he has a 34th percentile average exit velocity with a ninth-percentile barrel rate. That sounds like a recipe for runs tonight, especially when taking into account how bad the Twins’ bullpen has been. Los Angeles could run up the team total here.
