Zach Thompson details his top starting pitcher props for Saturday’s MLB slate on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Saturday brings another extremely bingeable day of Major League Baseball with matchups spread all throughout the day. After a busy afternoon, five games are on the schedule for under the lights. While there are plenty of fun options in home run props and DFS fantasy baseball contests from the 10 teams under the lights, it’s also a great night to explore some of the many options offered for starting pitcher prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook. In this post, you can find my top plays for the Athletics’ J.T. Ginn, the Dodgers’ Roki Sasaki, and the Rangers’ Nathan Eovaldi.
In almost every MLB contest, starting pitching is key to deciding how the matchup will play out. DraftKings Sportsbook offers plenty of different varieties of SP prop bets, so let’s survey the field and find some fun ones to target this Saturday night.
Ginn dominated in his last start, not giving up a hit until the ninth inning, but taking a tough, walk-off loss to the Angels. His eight innings matched his career-high for the 27-year-old righty, but he has been excellent all season when pitching on the road.
Ginn has held opponents to a .155 batting average with a 1.67 ERA in his 32 1/3 road innings this season. Sutter Health Park is a tough place for all pitchers, but when Ginn has been away, he has been very productive. He’ll be in a very pitcher-friendly park this Saturday, taking on the Padres at Petco Park.
Overall this season, Ginn is only averaging 14.7 outs per game, but those numbers are skewed low since he began the season working out of the pen and had to stretch out.
He has worked at least six innings (recording 18+ outs) in each of his last three outings, including road games against the Phillies and Angels and a strong home start against the Cardinals.
Ginn deserved a better finish to his near no-no on Monday, and he’ll look to continue his impressive run of success with another strong road showing Saturday. While many of his props are unfavorable odds, his outs recorded prop line is still not bad at all.
The Dodgers are in Milwaukee for a great series with the Brew Crew this weekend. Sasaki has had a rough season overall with a 5.09 ERA and 5.53 FIP through his first eight starts. He has had a few dominant starts but has also struggled with his command.
Sasaki is averaging 2.0 walks per game so far this season, but he has been trending in the right direction in his last few outings. He has been under this prop line in five straight outings, and he didn’t issue a single free pass in his most recent start last Sunday against the Angels.
While his resurgence is still a work in progress, his control has been strong enough to love the odds for this under, even though they’re a little shorter than what I normally target with starting pitcher prop bets.
The Angels have the highest K% in the majors this year, with a 25.4% K% and an average of 9.6 strikeouts per game. Eovaldi should be in a good spot to attack in Anaheim on Saturday, after the 36-year-old veteran righty has found his groove after a slower start.
Eovaldi has 55 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings overall this season, and he has gone over this prop in each of his last three outings against the Yankees twice and the Astros in his most recent appearance.
Nasty Nate has gone over this prop line in six of his nine starts, and facing such a strikeout-prone lineup on Saturday, he should be primed to go over this line again in this road divisional matchup. The Angels roughed up Jacob deGrom on Friday in the series opener, but Eovaldi will look to get the Rangers back on track Saturday night.
You can play these starting pitcher props individually, use them in a round robin format, or you can be more aggressive and combine them into a parlay. Playing parlays multiplies the risk, the odds and the potential payout. If you combine the three picks from this post into a parlay play for Saturday, the odds stretch to +538.
