For the seventh straight year and 21st time in history, WWE is hosting its premium live event, Backlash. WWE Backlash is taking place on Saturday, May 9, at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. This is the seventh consecutive Backlash occurring in May.
After defeating CM Punk at WrestleMania, Roman Reigns makes his first defense of the World Heavyweight title against his cousin, Jacob Fatu. Backlash features five matches in total, with two for championships. Check out my predictions for each match on the Backlash card below.
Over the last decade, the WWE has been at its best when the Bloodline is on top. That is once again true as two members of the Bloodline, Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu, are headlining a premium live event. Even for someone like Reigns, Fatu presents a different challenge than any other family member has posed to him before. Although Solo Sikoa and Jey Uso (two past opponents of Regins) were viable opponents. Fatu’s all-around skillset is on a different level. Fatu has as much potential as anyone from the Bloodline, not named Reigns.
You can tell by his words and actions how much this opportunity truly means to Fatu. He has talked about where he came from and his rocky past. Fatu hasn’t had the path that The Usos or Reigns had, but he forged his own way and has made it into the main event scene in WWE.
The Tribal Chief vs. The Samoan Werewolf. This match has the word cinema written all over it. The build-up for this match over the last few weeks has been excellent, as expected. Although I believe Fatu is a future champion, it seems too soon for that to come to fruition.
Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu Prediction: Roman Reigns retains the World Heavyweight title against Jacob Fatu.
In recent weeks, Bron Breakker has beaten down Seth Rollins and has momentum heading into their match. I’ve gone back and forth on my prediction for this match because it would make sense for both competitors to win. I do think there will be interference in this contest. After losing to Gunther at WrestleMania 42, Rollins needs the victory more than Breakker does. On Monday Night Raw, a future Reigns vs. Rollins match was teased, and that would only occur if Rollins gets past Breakker.
Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker Prediction: Seth Rollins defeats Bron Breakker.
After a very long feud, Iyo Sky and Asuka finally face off in a singles match. This is only their second one-on-one match, with Sky winning their first. Sky needs a win over Asuka to give her momentum and get her back into the title picture.

After beating Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42, Trick Williams looks to continue his winning streak against the former champion. Since Williams just won the United States Championship less than a month ago, it would be shocking if Zayn beat him at Backlash. The fans have turned on Zayn, and it appears a heel run could be next for him.

There have been multiple people who came to mind when considering who Danhausen would pick as his tag team partner. CM Punk, The Demon Finn Balor, and Jelly Roll all seem to be options to join Danhausen. Punk is real-life friends with Danhausen and has appeared in short clips backstage with him. At WrestleMania, Danhausen posted a photo with Balor, titling it “Demonhausen”. Lastly, Jelly Roll was feuding with The Miz and Kit Wilson last month before coming to Cody Rhodes’ aid. Danhausen has been one of WWE’s most popular superstars over the last month, and it is likely he will win his first premium live event match.
