Ryan Wohl breaks down his best bet for Adriano Moraes vs. Phumi Nkuta at tonight’s MVP MMA event airing on Netflix.
Former ONE Championship Bantamweight title holder Adriano Moraes is taking on rising prospect Phumi Nkuta on the Prelims of the first Netflix MVP MMA card. Moraes was originally scheduled to fight Muhammad Mokaev on this card, but Mokaev was unable to obtain a visa in time.
Check out my prediction for Adriano Moraes vs. Phumi Nkuta taking place at tonight’s Netflix MMA MVP.
Nkuta has fought in Bellator, CFFC, and LFA, among other promotions. He is from New Jersey and trains at the legendary gym, Ray Longo’s Mixed Martial Arts. Head Coach Ray Longo has produced four UFC Champions: Matt Serra, Chris Weidman, Aljamain Sterling, and Merab Dvalishvili. Nkuta has been on the rise over the last few years and now has an opportunity on a significant MMA card.
Moraes, 37, is coming off a loss to Yuya Wakamatsu at ONE 172 in March 2025. He is 1-3 in his previous four contests, with his last victory coming against Danny Kingad in November 2024. Moraes was the ONE Bantamweight Champion from January 2019 to August 2022. He has a trilogy with legend Demetrious Johnson and went 1-2 against him.
In this contest, former champion Moraes is a +150 underdog while Nkuta is the favorite at -180 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The over/under is set at 2.5 rounds with the over being -220. Although Nkuta is smaller, I think his quickness will be too much for Moraes to handle. Since Nkuta traditionally fights at 125 pounds, he will need to have a high output to make up for it.
