A fan-favorite character just made a long-rumored appearance in the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Here’s a breakdown of how Season 2 Episode 8 played out, as well as what it means for what lies ahead in the MCU.
Before Matt Murdock made his way into the MCU proper, Daredevil was the centerpiece of Marvel’s presence on Netflix, but he wasn’t the only street-level superhero running around New York. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Punisher each got their own shows as well, all leading up to a crossover in The Defenders. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 committed to pulling that crew over to the mainline continuity, most notably by adding Jessica Jones to the cast.
The Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 finale featured another massive cameo, though. If you need a breakdown of who made a surprise appearance, or are looking to get filled in on every major plot development in Daredevil: Born Again, we’ve got you covered.
(Warning: Spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 8 ahead.)
Jessica Jones made her true MCU debut in Season 2 Episode 6, joining Daredevil’s fight against mayor Wilson Fisk after a mysterious CIA operative Mr. Charles sent a hit squad to her house. That marked the first time we saw Jessica since Season 3 of her own show back in 2019. She had a daughter named Danielle in the intervening year, who is also Luke Cage’s daughter in the comics. In Episode 7, Mr. Charles told Jessica that Luke was overseas working for the government so she didn’t have to.
Matt got shot by Kingpin’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force after day one of Karen Page’s trial, so Jessica came back into the story and promised him that she would help take the mayor down. She escorted the Governor to the courthouse and corroborated Matt’s testimony about destroying Mr. Charles’ illegal weapons shipment that went through Kingpin’s secret port. That all led to chaos breaking out, with the AVTF and an angry mob both storming the courthouse. Jessica helped Matt fight his way through the hoards of goons, ultimately getting Fisk to accept the District Attorney’s deal and step down as mayor.
In the falling action of the explosive finale, Jessica returned to Manhattan with Danielle, seemingly restarting her work at Alias Investigations. Luke Cage suddenly appears in the doorway, finally back from his time abroad. He is back to stay, too, since Mr. Charles replaced him with Bullseye.
Hector Ayala’s niece, Angela del Toro, took on the mantle of the White Tiger and helped Daredevil and Jessica take out the AVTF in the courthouse. She had been a supporting player throughout both seasons of Daredevil: Born Again, however, so her appearance was hardly a surprise. Detective Brett Mahoney, a holdover from the Netflix era, also popped up after his initial cameo in Episode 7.
Other than those two, there wasn’t really another cameo that matched the significance of Luke Cage’s appearance. No Punisher, no Spider-Man, no Moon Knight and no Iron Fist.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 started shooting in March 2026, a year after filming began for Season 2. As a result, the next batch of episodes for the revival series are scheduled to premiere in 2027, presumably in the same release window as the first two seasons.
Thanks to leaked set photos and Instagram posts from the cast, we know that Finn Jones’ Danny Rand – a.k.a. Iron Fist – is following Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage from the Netflix continuity to the MCU proper. Margarita Levieva’s Heather Glenn is also coming back in a full-on villainous role, seemingly taking over the mantle of Muse after she killed Bastian Cooper in Season 1. And with Matt imprisoned for Daredevil’s crimes after revealing his secret identity, the rest of the Defenders might have to take care of the city in his absence.
There may be additional setup for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 in the upcoming one-hour A Marvel Television Special Presentation: The Punisher: One Last Kill, which hits Disney+ on May 12. And since Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes place in New York, features the Punisher and succeeds a Spider-Man: No Way Home film that included a Matt Murdock cameo, that movie could have some Daredevil Easter eggs, too.
Luke Cage showed up in the final minutes of the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 finale, played once again by Mike Colter, to reunite with Jessica Jones and their daughter. Colter previously played Cage – a.k.a. Power Man – in two seasons of Luke Cage and The Defenders miniseries on Netflix.
The eighth and final episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premiered on Tuesday, May 5.
Season 2 is available to stream on Disney+ in its entirety. Season 1 is also on Disney+ if you are looking to catch up, as are all three seasons of the original Daredevil show that initially aired on Netflix. Luke Cage and The Defenders are also on Disney+.
Marvel Studios confirmed in September 2025 that production for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 would start in early 2026. Filming began in March. The third season of the revival is expected to come out in March 2027.
