The Twins have the luxury of facing Tatsuya Imai, who has some of the worst command I’ve seen in a while. Through 12.2 innings, Imai already has a 9.9 BB/9, walking 14 hitters. Because of this, there are constantly men on base, and it’s a big reason why he owns a 9.24 ERA with an xERA of 6.62 and a 6.65 FIP. The Twins have no issue with taking a walk either, as tonight’s expected lineup has a BB% just under 10%. When Imai isn’t walking batters, they’re hitting his stuff hard. His slider, which is his main pitch, has been tagged for a .443 wOBA and a 47% hard-hit rate. With plenty of opportunities to score, I like the Twins to go over 4.5 runs tonight.
With the left-handed Patrick Corbin on the mound for the Blue Jays, Goldschmidt should hit leadoff for the Yankees tonight. He continues to smash lefties and, for the season, owns a .455 wOBA, a .361 ISO, and a 195 wRC+. Corbin is a major regression candidate, indicated by his 6.09 xERA and a 42% hard-hit rate paired with his 3.93 ERA. Goldschmidt has also performed extremely well against lefties, specifically at Yankee Stadium. Dating back to last season, Goldy owns a .388 wOBA with a .268 ISO and a 153 wRC+ in those matchups.

The wheels seem like they’re coming off for Trevor Rogers. Rogers owns a 5.77 ERA with a .356 wOBA and a 4.46 FIP over the last month. He’s also gone under this outs total in four straight starts. Now he’ll face a very good hitting Rays lineup, who over the past week have averaged six runs per game. The Rays have good numbers against lefties, dating back to last season, and don’t strike out much. Tonight’s expected lineup has a combined .330 wOBA and a .160 ISO against lefties with an 18% K%. It would not surprise me to see Rogers get knocked out early once again before completing 5.2 innings.
