The Orioles and Dodgers open the weekend at Dodger Stadium with a sharp gap in team direction. Baltimore arrives at 35-41 after a quiet stay in Seattle, where the lineup produced only six runs across three games. Los Angeles sits at 48-27, owns the National League’s strongest run differential, and returns home with enough lineup pressure to make a rookie starter work immediately. Trey Gibson gets the assignment for Baltimore. Roki Sasaki gets another chance to turn premium stuff into a calmer full-game script. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Baltimore Orioles.

Dodgers vs. Orioles prediction, preview

Gibson brings size, velocity, and some early strikeout flashes, but the big-league command file looks dangerous here. He enters at 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 12 strikeouts, and 13 walks across 21.1 innings. His last start against San Diego showed both ends of the rookie experience. Gibson struck out seven, but he also allowed six runs and issued five walks in 4.1 innings. Los Angeles can weaponize that kind of traffic better than most lineups. One walk to Shohei Ohtani or Freddie Freeman can become an inning instead of a footnote.

The pitch-specific profile gives the Dodgers several attack lanes. Gibson works with a mid-90s four-seamer and sinker, a low-90s cutter, a slider, and a curveball. The four-seamer has already allowed a .400 average, .500 slugging percentage, and .482 wOBA in a small major-league sample. The curveball has been louder, with a .273 average, .818 slugging percentage, and .467 wOBA allowed. Those numbers will settle with time, but the immediate matchup is cruel. Ohtani has 15 homers, a .418 OBP, .545 slugging percentage, .409 wOBA, and 163 wRC+. Freeman adds a .368 OBP, .482 slugging percentage, and 137 wRC+.

The middle of the Dodgers’ order gives the run-line case more than one swing. Andy Pages has 15 homers, a .491 slugging percentage, .220 ISO, and 121 wRC+. Max Muncy brings 16 homers, a .256 ISO, .385 wOBA, and 147 wRC+. Kyle Tucker adds another left-handed damage lane, while Mookie Betts still forces careful pitching even during a frustrating post-injury stretch. Betts has been searching since his May return, but pitchers still have to respect the bat speed and strike-zone feel. Against a rookie with more walks than strikeouts, that collective patience can create the separation.

Orioles vs. Dodgers pick, best bet

Sasaki keeps the Baltimore side alive enough to avoid turning this into a lazy favorite piece. He enters at 3-4 with a 4.76 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 64 strikeouts, and 24 walks across 62.1 innings. His fastball, splitter, slider, and forkball can make hitters look helpless when he gets ahead. He struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings against the Angels earlier this month. Then he melted down against the White Sox, allowing seven runs in a fifth inning fueled by three walks. Baltimore’s left-handed and switch-hit bats can pressure that command if Sasaki loses the zone.

Recent form still points toward Los Angeles creating the cleaner path. The Orioles scored only six runs in Seattle and were shut out in the finale. Taylor Ward, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Pete Alonso, Samuel Basallo, Colton Cowser, and Jackson Holliday give Baltimore enough talent to make one loud inning possible, but the Dodgers have the better starter ceiling and steadier late-game bridge. Los Angeles’ bullpen owns a 3.43 season ERA, and the home offense gets first crack at Gibson before Baltimore’s inconsistent relief group has to cover leverage. Weather at Dodger Stadium should sit in the upper 60s without forcing a run-environment play.
