Bryan Armetta shares his favorite player props on DraftKings Sportsbook for Saturday’s NBA Finals Game 5 showdown between the Knicks and Spurs.
Can the Knicks finally win their first championship since 1973, or will the Spurs stave off elimination? That’s the question on everyone’s mind heading into Game 5 of the NBA Finals. In this must-watch series, every possession has felt pivotal On Wednesday, New York shocked the world with a 29-point second half comeback. At home, San Antonio will likely come out on Saturday with added intensity.
With so much star power on the court, which players are poised to surpass their totals tonight? The Spurs are favored by 5.5 points (-108) over the Knicks, with the over/under set at 215.5 points. Here are the two best prop bet picks on DraftKings Sportsbook for Saturday’s New York vs. San Antonio Game 5 matchup.
Part of what’s made this 3-1 Knicks lead so surprising is a lack of points from Mikal Bridges. Although the wing continues to play excellent defense, his offensive game can be inconsistent. Despite dominating against the 76ers and Cavaliers earlier this postseason, Bridges has looked off throughout the NBA Finals. Through four games against San Antonio, he’s averaging just 9.5 points. During his two most recent outings, the 29-year-old has delivered a combined nine points on 29% shooting from the field.
Credit to the Spurs, arguably the best defensive unit in basketball. Regardless, lackluster shooting to this degree is below what we’ve come to expect from New York’s two-way threat. As previously mentioned, Bridges has proven he’s a big-game player. In 11 of 18 appearances this postseason, he’s notched at least 11 points. Spurs wings Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie are good defenders, but neither are world-beaters. With all eyes on stopping Jalen Brunson, there should be shooting opportunities for Bridges tonight. Given his stellar track record, I’m willing to bet the veteran does well on Saturday.
If any one player is the x-factor for San Antonio, it’s Julian Champagnie. At his best, the small forward is capable of spacing the floor, giving Victor Wembanyama more shots inside the paint. However, his shooting has been erratic at best during the Finals. Over four games in this series, the 24-year-old is averaging 10.3 points while shooting 37% from the field and 38% from three-point range. He’s taken at least seven attempts from beyond the arc in three of those appearances.
In spite of his up-and-down play, the Spurs should continue to give Champagnie open shots. After all, we’ve seen the Knicks struggle when it comes to defending the perimeter. Opponents have made 13.5 three-pointers per game against New York this season, 13th-most in basketball. Besides, the St. John’s alum has been an effective shooter throughout the postseason. In four of his last seven playoff appearances, Champagnie has made at least three shots from deep. At home in San Antonio, he’s capable of a repeat performance.
