Keagan Smith gives you a preview, prediction and pick for today’s game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Athletics on Tuesday’s MLB slate.
Last night’s series opener between the Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers was sheer chaos. That game ended with 29 combined runs in ideal hitter conditions out in Las Vegas, and tonight the teams run it back again. Will we get another outrageous outing on Tuesday?
Here’s a betting prediction and pick for tonight’s Brewers vs. Athletics matchup courtesy of MLB odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Brewers ride a four-game winning streak into this game with a 41-23 record on the year, good for the best in the NL Central as their lead continues to grow. They have a +106 run differential and lead the MLB in scoring with 5.38 runs per game, typically relying on a small-ball approach and plenty of stolen bases. Milwaukee’s OPS of .727 is good for eighth with a .243/.340/.387 slash line, also sitting atop the sport with an 0.54 BB/K ratio. Yes, a .134 ISO is paltry at third-to-last behind just 54 homers, but clearly the Brew Crew don’t have to bash to score. Milwaukee also has an elite pitching staff that’s logged the fourth-best ERA at 3.39 alongside a 1.21 WHIP and 16.9% K-BB%. Narrowing those numbers down to just the bullpen yields a 3.36 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 14.7% K-BB%.
LHP Robert Gasser gets the start for the Brewers this evening with an 0-2 record in a limited sample of three starts. He’s thrown just 13.1 innings with a 4.73 ERA and 1.43 WHIP, but has 12 strikeouts over that span.
The A’s briefly held a lead in the AL West but have dropped to 31-35 on the year, placing them third in the division standings. They have a -44 run differential and are in the middle of the pack with 4.35 runs per game. The club brings a .726 OPS that’s good for ninth on a .245/.326/.401 slash line, also hitting 79 homers (eighth most) with a .156 ISO. They also have an 0.44 BB/K ratio as well. The arms leave a lot to be desired though, logging the fifth-worst ERA at 4.69 with a 1.42 WHIP and 10.8% K-BB%. The reliever split produces a 4.62 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 12.1% K-BB%.
RHP J.T. Ginn gets the start for the Athletics tonight with a 3-3 record across 14 appearances (11 starts). He has a 2.74 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 60 Ks in 65.2 IP.
DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Athletics as -112 Moneyline favorites in Las Vegas tonight. The Brewers come in with -108 odds to win outright. The total sits at 13.5 combined runs between these two teams.
Last night was pure mayhem as the opener of this series ended with a 15-14 Brewers win. There were 11, yes, 11 home runs in that outing as Milwaukee bashed four and the A’s put up seven of their own. The reason for that explosion of offense? A hitter-friendly Las Vegas Ballpark with temperature in the mid 90-degree Fahrenheit range and the wind blowing out as the Athletics played near their future home. Conditions are expected to be similar tonight at first pitch, which sets us up for another ridiculous game here. I considered the over on the game total at 13.5 runs, but I’d rather get in on the homer action instead with the over on 4.5 long balls. If these teams combine for even half as many moonshots as we saw last time out, this prop should look good tonight.
