Cooper Albers shares his top player prop bets for Sunday’s MLB slate.
All 30 MLB clubs are in action for the first Sunday in May, bringing plenty of star power and value across the board.
Let’s dive into three of my favorite player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Fresh off a fourth-place finish in the American League Cy Young race, Max Fried has picked up right where he left off in 2026. The Yankees southpaw — operating as one half of a two-headed monster with Cam Schlittler — has shoved to the tune of a 2.09 ERA (2.24 xERA) and a 0.80 WHIP with 37 strikeouts across his first seven starts — an MLB-leading 47.1 innings. He also paces the majors in pitching run value (15).
Fried, 32, has collected at least 18 outs (6.0 IP) in all but one start this season — and in 27 of 39 outings since donning the Pinstripes. Expect the reliable ace to deliver another quality start Sunday afternoon against the Orioles, who’ve managed just seven hits (two home runs) through their first two games in The Bronx.
Shohei Ohtani has gotten off to a sluggish start for his skyscraping standards — that is, an .835 OPS, six home runs, 13 RBIs, and 21 runs scored through his first 33 games. But the perennial MVP has steadily heated up over his past six games in the DH spot, hitting .318 with seven hits, a home run, two RBIs, and six runs scored in that span.
It’s also worth noting that Ohtani, 31, boasts a 1.195 OPS during day games.
After being held hitless through his first two games against the Cardinals, the two-way superstar looks well-positioned to bounce back in Sunday’s series finale. Ohtani will take on his former teammate, struggling right-hander Dustin May, who’s liable for a 5.28 ERA (4.08 xERA) and a 1.53 WHIP through his first six starts this season. May ranks near MLB’s bottom in strikeout rate (21st percentile), hard-hit rate (19th), and xBA (16th). Ohtani went 1-for-3 against him while playing for the Angels.
Parker Messick has been otherworldly as he begins his first full season with the Guardians. The 25-year-old southpaw has posted a 1.73 ERA (2.69 xERA) with a 0.88 WHIP and 38 strikeouts through his first six starts (36.1 IP). Hitters have been no match for his diabolical arsenal, and he ranks in MLB’s 95th percentile with a 37.5 chase rate.
Messick has recorded two nine-strikeout performances over his last three starts. The latest of which was a 5.2-inning performance against the Rays, who trail only the Blue Jays for the lowest strikeout rate in baseball. He seems well-positioned to rack up at least seven K’s against the A’s, who sit just outside the bottom ten with a 22.6% sit-down rate.
