Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays for Wednesday’s seven-game fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings.
After a busy afternoon of getaway matchups, Wednesday night has seven games on the main DFS fantasy baseball slate, which begins at 7:07 p.m. ET. There’s a fun mix of big-name starters, offenses in smash spots, and young players getting into the mix, offering many different options to consider as you build your fantasy roster for this evening. Let’s dive in and examine the 14 teams in the player pool to identify some solid MLB DFS picks for Wednesday night’s slate.
Overall, the weather looks like it will be a non-factor. There is some threat of showers in Minnesota and St. Louis, but nothing that should threaten the flow of the game. In Minnesota and San Francisco, significant wind is in the forecast blowing out, which could give bats a boost in those locations. Be sure to check back for lineups and the latest weather forecast updates before the first pitch. Environments and matchups are key factors when making your MLB DFS picks. This article was written before starting lineups were announced.

Gage Jump, Athletics at San Francisco Giants, $8,800 — The A’s are back by the Bay as they take on the Giants this week, and they lost the first game of their three-game series on Tuesday night. They’ll look to get back in the win column on Wednesday behind impressive rookie Gage Jump, who has earned 20+ FPTS in three of his last four outings.
In his last start, Jump went seven one-hit innings at home at Sutter Health Park against the Angels. The lefty earned a career-high 31.4 FPTS in his third win of the season. Over his last four starts in June, he has allowed just four total earned runs for a 1.42 ERA and 2.51 FIP. He has racked up 21 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings over that stretch and got nice road wins over the Cubs and Astros. The Giants should be a favorable matchup for the young lefty on Wednesday night in pitcher-friendly Oracle Park.
Mitch Bratt, Arizona Diamondbacks at St. Louis Cardinals, $4,000 — Bratt is another rookie lefty that deserves a look this Wednesday, and he won’t have to do much to be a great value at only the minimum salary for a pitcher at $4,000. Bratt had a 2.84 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings in Triple-A for Reno in the Pacific Coast League, which tends to be very hitter-friendly, making his numbers even more impressive. In fact, he has the lowest ERA in the League among pitchers with a minimum of 40 innings
The 22-year-old was part of the return for the rental of Merrill Kelly to the Rangers last season. He is known for pounding the strike zone and throwing a ton of strikes, and MLB Pipeline ranked him as the No. 14 prospect in the team’s system. He doesn’t have elite strikeout stuff, but at this bargain salary, all he has to do is contribute quality innings and give his team a chance at a win to be worth his $4,000 salary. Using the two young lefties in your SP slots leaves plenty of salary to fill out the rest of your lineup card with big bats.
OF Brice Turang, Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds, $5,700 — Turang and the Brewers will be in a hitter-friendly spot at Great American Ball Park against the Reds and Rhett Lowder ($6,300). He has averaged 8.9 FPTS per game over the last nine games and picked up multiple hits in each of the first two games of this series. He had 8 FPTS on Monday and then 13 FPTS on Tuesday since he added his 13th stolen base of the season. He has both power and speed upside and brings a very high ceiling against Lowder, who has allowed five homers this season, all to lefties, who have a .794 OPS against him, compared to just a .594 OPS for righties.
1B LuJames Groover, Arizona Diamondbacks at St. Louis Cardinals, $2,200 — The mound isn’t the only place to find some salary relief from a D-backs’ rookie. Groover has played 12 games since his promotion from Reno, hitting .175 but with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. He is averaging 3.4 FPTS per game on the season, but has 7 FPTS in three of his last seven and two of his last three. He’ll likely get a spot in the lineup against lefty Matthew Liberatore ($6,200) on Wednesday night, and Liberatore has a 5.23 ERA and 1.56 WHIP, making the D-backs a solid lineup to spotlight in your MLB DFS picks on Wednesday.
OF Pete Crow-Armstrong, Chicago Cubs at New York Mets, $6,300 — The Cubs and Mets are playing a doubleheader, with lefty Sean Manaea ($8,000) likely to pitch the nightcap for New York. Even in a lefty-lefty matchup, PCA is worth a look since he has been so on fire lately in all matchups. The polarizing producer has at least 11 FPTS in eight straight games, averaging 20.9 FPTS per contest over that stretch. He is 17-for-32 (.531) with two doubles, a triple, six homers, a .688 ISO, and a 69.6% hard-hit rate over that span. We’re back to peak PCA, and he is wreaking so much havoc out of the leadoff spot that he’s worth a look if you have the salary, even though his matchup isn’t ideal.
Daulton Varsho, Toronto Blue Jays vs. Houston Astros, $3,100 — Varsho just returned from the injured list with wrist inflammation, and his bat seems to be feeling just fine, since he has gone 5-for-15 with a 60% hard-hit rate and 20% barrel rate with a pair of home runs since returning. He has averaged 19.3 FPTS in those three games with 28 FPTS on Tuesday after he had a home run, two doubles, and two RBI. He gets a great matchup against Mike Burrows ($7,100), who has let lefties hit 12 of the 18 homers he has allowed this season, with a .320 batting average, .421 wOBA, .260 ISO, and 11.4% barrel rate against Burrows. In his last six starts before a brief move to the bullpen, he gave up 10 home runs with a 6.95 ERA and 7.11 FIP.
