The Cleveland Guardians’ no-hitter drought continues. Stan Son reveals who and when the last pitcher accomplished the feat for the franchise.
The Cleveland Guardians have had a stable of great pitchers in its history: Bob Feller, Bob Lemon, Early Wynn, Corey Kluber, CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee and Shane Bieber. Out of that group, Feller and Lemon were the only ones to throw a no-hitter. Feller did it three times while Lemon did it once.
On Thursday, Parker Messick no-hit the Baltimore Orioles through eight innings while walking two and striking out nine. Then, Leody Taveras notched a single in the ninth to break up the no-no.
If Messick was able to navigate the ninth inning without allowing a hit, he would’ve notched the 15th no-hitter in Cleveland franchise history. The last time the feat has been accomplished was back in 1981 by Len Barker.
