The Boys Season 5 has laid most of the groundwork for what is sure to be an explosive finish. Sam Connon breaks down everything you need to know about the superhero show before Episode 5 hits Prime Video.
The Boys Season 5 is officially past the halfway point, with most of the setup taken care of and plenty of bonkers action still to come. Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are bound to loop in even more wild characters and plotlines down the stretch of their smash-hit satirical superhero show, with the grand finale mere weeks away.
If you are all-in for the home stretch of The Boys, here is everything you need to know before Season 5 Episode 5 premieres:
Season 5 Episode 5 will premiere on Prime Video at 3 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 29. The episode, which is titled One-Shots, is expected to have a runtime around 1 hour.
The fifth season, like the previous four, will consist of eight episodes. The final four episodes will come out once a week until the series finale on May 20.
(Warning: Spoilers for The Boys Season 5 Episode 4 ahead.)
Even five seasons into its run, The Boys‘ sprawling ensemble cast continues to grow. Not even counting the crossovers from Gen V, who are bound to show up, Kripke is bringing over some familiar faces from his previous production, Supernatural. Here is a look at who is expected to be in the cast for Season 5 Episode 5:
There wasn’t any V1 at Fort Harmony after all, so Homelander isn’t immortal and the Boys don’t have the key to unlock an even more powerful virus. Still, Ryan ran away, Starlight sorted things out with her absentee father and Firecracker teamed up with Ashley and Oh Father to serve Homelander to the public as a literal God, so Episode 4 wasn’t a complete waste of time. With only four hours left in the series, there might not be much time left for bottle episodes, fresh backstories and new side plots.
Homelander is still tracking down V1 using whatever intel Vought gathered from a captured Stan Edgar. Moving forward, the story should almost always revolve around this plot point, since it is critical to the virus plot, Homelander’s relationship with his father and the eventual endgame of the show itself. As for what the Boys are doing, at least Starlight is back in the fold. However, Frenchie and Kimiko’s relationship is on the rocks, so that dynamic is worth keeping an eye on, as well.
Based on the preview teaser Amazon put out for Episode 5, we are finally going to get Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins this week. Padalecki is playing Mister Marathon, while Collins’ character remains undetermined. They will get to share scenes with Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, serving as a massive reunion for Supernatural fans everywhere. Meanwhile, the cast of Gen V didn’t show up in the lookahead, so they might not pop up until Episode 6.
The Boys Season 5 Episode 5 will premiere at 3 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 29. The following three episodes will drop once a week at the same time.
Season 5 is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The first four seasons are also available on the streaming service if you are looking to catch up, as are both seasons of Gen V.
The show’s creators have confirmed that there will not be another season of The Boys after Season 5. However, there are multiple spinoffs in the works. While Gen V was canceled after two seasons, prequel series Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico are both in development. Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy is confirmed to be returning for Vought Rising, which is set to release in 2027.
