Alex Hunter provides his top DraftKings fantasy golf value plays for the 2026 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Following the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, we remain in the Northeast for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands (par 70, 6,844 yards, Bentgrass/Poa greens) in Cromwell, Connecticut. This Pete Dye designed course has been the home of the Travelers since 1984 and Keegan Bradley (-15) is the defending champion after winning by one stroke a year ago. The Travelers is the eighth and final Signature Event of the season. 72 of the PGA TOUR’s best players will be competing for a $20 million purse and there will be no cut.
TPC River Highlands is a short par 70 that features narrow fairways, thick rough, small greens, 69 bunkers and water in play on five holes. TPC River Highlands is a less-than-driver course where you need to have a great performance with your irons and putter to win, which is usually the case with Dye designs. For four straight years, the winner at TPC River Highlands has finished the event top-12 in SG APP and top-five in SGP.
A large 28.1% of the approach shots at this venue the last five years have come from 150-175 yards out, so targeting players who are efficient from this distance is a sharp strategy. With TPC River Highlands being a classic par 70 with 12 par fours, scoring well on the par fours is most crucial. Each of the last four victors here have finished the week top-five in par four performance.
Let’s dive into three of my favorite DraftKings bargain plays for the Travelers Championship, which all cost less than $7.5K.
Set your DraftKings fantasy golf lineups here: PGA TOUR $700K Sand Trap [$200K to 1st]
Hideki Matsuyama ($7,300): Matsuyama must be on your radar at this low salary, which is the cheapest he has been on DraftKings in time. This season, Matsuyama has yet to miss a cut in 14 starts and he has finished inside the top-25 seven times. The 11-time PGA TOUR winner finished just T65th at the U.S. Open last week, but Matsuyama still gained strokes on approach at Shinnecock and ranks 27th in SG APP for the season.
Furthermore, Matsuyama ranks 16th in proximity to the hole on 150-175-yard approach shots, which is a great sign for TPC River Highlands as 28.1% of the approach shots at this venue over the last five years have come from this distance. Matsuyama has finished T13th, T23rd and T30th in his three starts at TPC River Highlands and ranks sixth in this field in strokes gained per round at Dye courses. Matsuyama should supply another strong finish at TPC River Highlands and is a steal at this low price point.
Bud Cauley ($7,000): Cauley travels to TPC River Highlands in strong form. The Alabama product has made 11 straight cuts and finished inside the top-30 six times during this cut streak. Just two weeks ago, Cauley broke through and secured the first PGA TOUR win of his career at the RBC Canadian Open. Cauley has gained strokes on approach and with his putter in three of his last four starts, and he ranks third in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds.
At TPC River Highlands, Cauley has finished inside the top-25 in three-of-nine starts, including a T25 last season. The 36-year-old has shot as low as a 7-under 63 at TPC River Highlands, so cracking the top-20 this week is a solid possibility.
Corey Conners ($6,700): Conners has finished T9th and T27th in his last two starts at TPC River Highlands while shooting a 3-under 67 or lower in all but one of these eight rounds. As for his current form, Conners has made 13-of-15 cuts and carded four top-25 finishes this season, most recently with a T23 at the U.S. Open this past week.
In the tough conditions at Shinnecock, Conners finished the week eighth in strokes gained approach. The Canadian ranks top-35 in both SG APP and proximity to the hole on approach shots of 150-175 yards this season, so Conners is in a great position to succeed at TPC River Highlands again this week.
