Ryan Wohl previews Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Perth, headlined by Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates.
This Saturday, May 2, the UFC is back in Australia for a Fight Night with this one taking place at the RAC Arena in Perth. Two of the best Welterweights in the world, No. 1 Jack Della Maddalena and No. 5 Carlos Prates, will face off in the Main Event of this card. This event features 12 Australian fighters; there is only one fight without an Aussie.
Della Maddalena is returning to the Octagon after losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322 in November 2025, his first title defense. That was JDM’s first defeat since his second professional MMA fight in May 2016. Before his last bout, Della Maddalena had an 8-0 record in the UFC. Now he’s back home in Perth with an opportunity to get back in the win column, but he has a dangerous opponent in his path.
Prates’ record stands at 23-7, but that is a bit deceiving, as he has looked nearly unstoppable lately, with a 13-1 record in his previous 14 bouts. After suffering his first UFC loss to Ian Machado Garry in April 2025, Prates has since recorded two victories, both coming by knockout.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, both fighters in the Main Event are currently -110 to win this contest. Even though the odds are even, Prates is still the popular choice as he is getting 66 percent of the handle and 58 percent of bets. The former champion is receiving 42 percent of bets and 34 percent of the handle.
The co-main event is another intriguing bout as veteran No. 12 Beneil Dariush faces rising star Quillan Salkilld. Dariush is 1-3 in his last four bouts and is in desperate need of a victory in order to maintain his spot in the Lightweight rankings. But that could be hard against Salkilld, who appears to be one of the best prospects in the UFC. He is 4-0 in the UFC with three finishes and has an overall record of 11-1 with eight wins by submission or knockout. Salkilld is the favorite at -485 while the veteran is a +370 underdog. 60 percent of the handle is on Salkilld as Dariush is getting 40 percent. Salkilld garners 83 percent of bets, with 17 percent on Dariush.
The third matchup on this card, featuring two ranked fighters, is No. 11 Tim Elliott vs. No. 12 Steve Erceg. Long-time UFC veteran Elliott has won two straight fights by submission, while Erceg is coming off a win against Ode Osbourne. Erceg is a -180 favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, while Elliott is a +150 underdog. Elliott gets 51 percent of the handle, and 49 percent is on Erceg. Meanwhile, Erceg is getting 71 percent of bets, as 29 percent are on Elliott.
