Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays for Wednesday’s nine-game fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings.
After a busy afternoon of getaway games this Wednesday, Major League Baseball closes out the day with nine games on the main DFS fantasy baseball slate. The slate starts a few minutes early at 6:40 p.m. ET to include as many games as possible, but there could be some weather issues in play as well. As you make your MLB DFS picks today, be sure to keep a close eye on any news around weather delays.
The weather in Washington and New York looks iffy, while Coors Field will be clear but very gold with game-time temperatures only in the 30s. The sketchy weather in those locations makes the offense-friendly forecast in Philadelphia stand out as a good spot to attack, while the indoor games in Miami and Arizona also make sense
Let’s look through the 18 teams in the player pool and pick out some top studs and values for your MLB DFS lineups on DraftKings this Wednesday. This article was written before starting lineups were announced and with all seven games still on the board.

Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies vs. Athletics, $10,000 — Wheeler has been excellent since returning from his venous thoracic outlet syndrome that delayed his debut until the end of April. He can back ahead of the original schedule and has looked sharp in both his starts on the road in Atlanta and Miami. He went five innings and at 15.6 FPTS in his season debut against the Braves, and he was even more impressive last Friday, working six innings and allowing just one run on three hits while picking up eight strikeouts and earning 28.5 FPTS.
The matchup isn’t ideal since the young Athletics lineup does bring some power and the environment is one of the best for offense on the evening. The A’s offense hasn’t been quite as effective on the road, though, with an 83 team wRC+ and a .296 road wOBA that each rank in the bottom 10 in the majors. Wheeler’s 22.1 FPTS per game average is solid enough to make him the top option on the board if you can afford his salary, and when you add in the fact that it’s his first home start of the year, he is an even stronger play. Last year, he had a 2.19 ERA and 2.57 FIP at home with 12.5 K/9.
Colin Rea, Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds, $6,500 — The winds will be blowing in at Wrigley Field, so it’s not going to be a homer-happy environment, and Rae has been very solid this season overall for the Cubs. He had one awful outing against the Dodgers (understandable) but has posted 19+ FPTS in three of his last four starts.
Rea had six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings with no walks against Arizona in his most recent outing, earning 19.2 FPTS and his fourth win of the season. He typically doesn’t get quite that many K’s, but his veteran ability to limit damage makes him a great option at such a bargain salary. Rea has a 3.42 FIP on the year and has allowed just five runs in 15 innings at Wrigley, where he has 15 strikeouts and just a .297 wOBA against him.
SS Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Guardians, $6,100 — Witt’s power outage at the start of the season got plenty of attention, but he has hit three homers in his last nine games along with a double and a triple for a .397 wOBA. He has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, going 21-for-67 (.313) with a .400 wOBA. He’s averaging 11.9 FPTS per game over his last 10 contest with double-digit FPTS in six of those contests, including 21 and 10 FPTS in his first two games in this series against the Guardians. He’ll take on lefty Joey Cantillo ($7,500) in Game 3 and is hitting .367 with a .452 wOBA in his splits this season against lefties. He is also 3-for-9 with a pair of doubles against Cantillo in their past meetings. If you have the salary to spend, Witt has been consistent enough and has hit his ceiling often enough to be a strong anchor for your MLB DFS picks today.
C Joe Mack, Miami Marlins vs. Baltimore Orioles, $2,000— Even though he’s a catcher at the minimum salary, Mack is definitely more than just a punt play this Wednesday night. The 23-year-old was the No. 4 prospect in the organization and the No. 52 prospect in baseball coming into the season, according to MLB Pipeline, and he hit .244 with three homers and a .363 wOBA in his 24 games at Triple-A. He went 0-for-3 in his MLB debut on Monday but picked up two hits, an RBI and 8 FPTS on Tuesday. If he gets another start behind the plate against Brandon Young ($7,000), he could end up as a great value since Young gave up 10 runs on 10 hits in four innings in his last outing. He has let lefties like Mack post a .367 wOBA against him on the season.
Jarren Duran, Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers, $4,500 — Duran is still hitting only an un-studly .195 on the season, but he’s started to get going lately for the Red Sox and has a very high ceiling at a very affordable salary this Wednesday night in Detroit. Duran has been back in the leadoff spot since the Red Sox made the move at manager, and in his last five games, he went 7-for-23 (.304) with three homers and an average of 13.8 FPTS. He still has a very high strikeout-rate but has caught three barrels (18.8%) over his last five games after just an 9.7% barrel rate through his first 26 games of the season. Duran is also a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts this season, so he brings both power and speed upside against Jack Flaherty ($6,700), who has a 5.90 ERA, 6.18 FIP and five homers against him this season. Lefties have posted a .404 wOBA against him this season.
Adolis Garcia, Philadelphia Phillies vs. Athletics, $3,000 — Garcia is a solid way to get a piece of the Phillies offense at a very reasonable salary. He is hitting .238 with three homers and a .304 wOBA on the season but has been heating up by going 15-for-53 (.283) with a double, triple and home run over his last 14 games. He has hit safely in 11 of those 14 contests and has a 50% hard-hit rate. He and the Phillies will face lefty Jeffrey Springs ($7,800) on Wednesday night. Garcia is hitting .242 with a .323 wOBA in his splist against lefties, and the righty masher brings plenty of power potential if he hits in the heart of the order as the Phillies look to take a second straight game from the A’s.
