Zach Thompson details his picks for DraftKings MLB Grand Slam Payout promotion on today’s slate.
DraftKings has a new promotion in May. It’s the MLB Grand Slam Payout.
The concept is simple. Opt in and get a MLB Grand Slam Payout token. Use that token on a single wager or for a parlay on a player to hit a home run, and if that home runs ends up being a grand slam, receive a share of $250,000 in bonus bets — or more!
After three straight days with a grand slam, Major League Baseball didn’t have a home run with the bases full on Saturday or Sunday, meaning the $250,000 in bonus bets has accumulated to a hefty $750,000 on Monday with six games on the schedule. Even on a slightly small slate, could we get a granny this Monday to start the week with a bang?
Let’s dive in and break down some picks.
The Yankees have the second-highest implied team total on Monday night as they roll into Baltimore to take on the Orioles and Brandon Young. Young is a solid 3-1 in his four starts with a 4.35 ERA and 4.81 FIP. He has a 1.45 WHIP overall, but at home, he has a 1.97 WHIP, which has led to 13 runs (seven earned) in his 9 2/3 home innings. All three of the homers he has allowed have been at home and lefties have two of those three homers. In his small sample size, lefties are hitting .421 with a .534 wOBA against him at Oriole Park.
Bellinger has been hitting cleanup for the Yankees and comes into the matchup red-hot, going 17-for-40 (.425) in his last 11 games. He had a pair of homers in one of those games while posting a .552 wOBA and .400 ISO on the basis of his 50% barrel rate and 13.9% barrel rate over that span. All of his homers so far this season have come at home, but he has the power potential to get his first road blast of the year on Monday. If Young continues to allow so much traffic, it could turn into a chance for Bellinger to bring home the bonus bets.
I’m coming back to Giants rookie Bryce Eldridge for a second straight day in my Grand Slam Payout Picks. He should be back in the middle of the lineup on Monday in a favorable matchup at Dodger Stadium, with warm weather and the wind blowing out as well. Eldridge is one of the top power prospects in baseball and smashed his first MLB home run on Friday. He’s 2-for-14 in his five games this season with a 55.6% hard-hit rate. At Triple-A before his promotion, he had a 56.2% hard-hit rate and five homers in his 30 games. Last year, the 6-foot-7 lefty had 21 dingers in 102 games in Double-A and Triple-A.
Eldridge and the Giants will take on Roki Sasaki on Monday night. Sasaki has the highest HR/9 and WHIP of any starting pitcher on the board this Monday. Sasaki has allowed eight homers in his six starts this season with a 12.2% barrel rate against him. Lefties like Eldridge have hit four of those eight homers with a .288 average and .392 wOBA.
The Giants’ offense hasn’t been good this season, but Eldridge gives them a slugger with legitimate power potential in the middle third of the order, after enough batters to maximize his potential to come up with the bases loaded. He’s a longshot play, but if he’s back in the lineup, he could deliver a big blow and hefty payout in bonus bets.
