Thursday’s slate features a full schedule of games, highlighted by Shota Imanaga continuing his steady start for the Cubs, MacKenzie Gore looking to overcome command issues against the Yankees, and a late matchup between Matthew Liberatore and Michael King in San Diego.
Gore has been shaky with his command through seven starts, issuing 18 walks for a 4.6 BB/9 through 34.2 innings. Weathers hasn’t gone deeper than 5.1 innings in five of his seven starts this season.
Woods Richardson has allowed at least four runs in four of his last five starts. Irvin has done an excellent job at limiting home runs thus far, posting a 1.04 HR/9, which is currently a career-low.
Cecconi has been getting hammered lately, allowing 15 runs on 26 hits through 16 innings. Lugo is a prime regression candidate, posting a 2.68 ERA with an xERA of 4.09 with a 38% hard-hit rate.
Lowder is coming off his worst start of the season, allowing eight runs on five hits through 1.1 innings against the Pirates. Imanaga hasn’t allowed more than one run in five of his seven starts this season.
This will be the third start of the season for Scott, who has gone 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with five walks and nine strikeouts. Quintana has been great over his last two starts against the Braves and Mets, allowing just two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.
Keller has been extremely tough on righties, posting a .147 wOBA with a 2.18 FIP. Gallen has seen his strikeout numbers drop off a cliff, as his 5.5 K/9 is by far the lowest of his career.
The five earned runs allowed by Ginn in his last start were the most he’s allowed in a start this season. Painter has been struggling against righties, posting a .413 wOBA with a 4.90 FIP and a 13% BB%.
Povich just got lit up by the Yankees, allowing five runs on seven hits, including two home runs, through four innings. Meyer has allowed a run in his last two starts, spanning 12 innings against the Phillies and Giants.
Jax will likely serve as an extended opener, as he hasn’t thrown more than 2.2 innings in his 13 appearances. Early has been a regression candidate, and it showed his last time out against the Astros. They tagged him for five runs on six hits through four innings.
Lefties have tagged Liberatore with a .451 wOBA, a 7.49 FIP, and four of the eight home runs he’s allowed.
