The 2026 Italian Open is the final big clay tournament ahead of the French Open. There have already been some great matches in this tournament, but things are really starting to pick up over the weekend.

Rafael Jodar vs. Matteo Arnaldi: Rafael Jodar 2:0 (-120)

Rafael Jodar has become a star over the past couple of months. Jodar was still playing college tennis last year and is in his first year as a professional. The 19-year-old won his first career ATP title at the Grand Prix Hassan II to start the clay season. He followed that up by defeating Cam Norrie and making it to the Barcelona Open semifinals. He followed that up with a trip to the quarterfinals at the Madrid Open, where he lost to Jannik Sinner. Jodar has proven he can be one of the best players in the world on clay. He took care of Nuno Borges in two sets in the previous round and has an even easier matchup in the Round of 32 against World No. 106 Matteo Arnaldi.

Arnaldi is coming off a great upset over Alex de Minaur, but de Minaur has been free-falling over the past couple of months. Despite his ranking, he is nowhere near a top-10 player in the world at the moment. Arnaldi is also coming off a great title win on the Challenger Tour. However, this match against Jodar will be a jump in quality from what he has seen in the past few weeks. Jodar should take care of business in straight sets for the second consecutive match.

Alexander Zverev vs. Alexander Blockx: Alexander Zverev 2:0 (-140)

Alexander Zverev is taking on Alexander Blockx for the second time in the past 10 days. These two faced off in the semifinals at the Madrid Open, and they now face off again in the Round of 32 in Rome. That match in Madrid was the first-ever meeting between the two. Zverev dominated Blockx in the first set, winning 6-2. Blockx put up a decent fight in the second set, but Zverev still won 7-5. Nothing has changed in the past nine days to make me think Zverev won’t win this match in two sets as well. At just -140, this is a bargain on Zverev to replicate his performance from Madrid here in Rome.

While Zverev was handled easily by Sinner in the Madrid Open final, he was still clearly the second-best player in that field. With Novak Djokovic taking an early exit in his return here in Rome, Zverev is once again the clear second-best player in the field. He has a great chance to cruise to the final and get another shot at Sinner. He should remain focused and continue stacking wins against inferior competition like Blockx. Blockx has had a great clay season and has made a name for himself, but he is not up to the level of Alexander Zverev.
