Zach Thompson details his top strikeout props for Friday’s MLB slate on DraftKings Sportsbook.
All 30 teams are in action this Friday night in a jam-packed MLB extravaganza. The action starts just after 6 p.m. ET and continues all night long, with plenty of great starting pitchers on the hill. It’s a nice slate for pitching overall, with several breakout performers and some established aces on the mound.
As we gear up for a fun start to the weekend, let’s take a look at the variety of strikeout props available on DraftKings Sportsbook and pick out a few best bets for this Friday night.
Luzardo has stepped up for the Phillies, who have found their footing, replacing Rob Thomson with Don Mattingly. Like the whole team, the southpaw has found his groove after a rocky start. A promising 2.72 FIP underscores Luzardo’s bloated 5.09 ERA. He has an extremely unlucky .368 BABIP — league average is around .300 — and has settled down with some excellent positive regression over his last few starts.
Luzardo has racked up at least eight strikeouts in four of his last six starts, including back-to-back outings. He struck out 11 over 6.2 innings against the Rockies in Colorado earlier this season, and he should follow suit in the rematch at Citizens Bank Park. The Rockies rank second in MLB with a 25.3% strikeout rate and have averaged 10.7 K’s per game on the road.
Cease has racked up the K’s for the Blue Jays this year and has the second-highest K/9 for all starting pitchers on Friday’s schedule. He has punched out 55 batters over his first 38.1 innings, and his 33.7% strikeout rate ranks in MLB’s 96th percentile.
The Angels have the highest strikeout rate in the majors this season, which has remained the case over the past month. They’ve averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game this season. Facing Los Angeles earlier this season, Cease matched his season high with 12 strikeouts over just five innings at Angel Stadium.
Cease had a rough outing in his last home start against the Red Sox but bounced back with seven strikeouts across seven strong innings against the Twins. Facing the free-swinging Halos on Friday, the odds for 8+ strikeouts seem favorable. You can also be more aggressive to attack him at 9+ (+124), 10+ (+218), or even 12+ (+680) if you want to climb the ladder.
Burke is my top value starting pitcher on Friday’s slate, and this strikeout prop is very gettable at only 5-plus. Over the last week, the Mariners have had the highest K-rate in baseball, averaging 10.5 strikeouts per game.
Burke comes into this outing at home with 32 strikeouts in his seven appearances (five starts) this season, averaging 4.6 K’s per game. He’s coming off an eight-strikeout performance against the Padres, who typically do a good job at putting the ball in play.
While Burke fell short of this prop line in four straight starts before that performance, his recent effectiveness forecasts another deep outing against Seattle’s free-swinging offense. I love the value at just five strikeouts Friday night in Chicago.
While none of these strikeout props are individually at very high odds, they can be combined into a nice parlay at +388 if you want to be more aggressive:
