Alex Hunter details his best NBA player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Sunday’s Game 7 between the Pistons and Cavaliers.
Game 7 between the Pistons and Cavaliers will be played in Detroit on Sunday night. The winner will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals to face the Knicks. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Detroit is favored by 4.5 points for Game 7 and this contest carries a total of 205.5 points.
Let’s dive into three of my favorite player prop bets for Sunday’s contest.
Reed has cleared this number in four straight games, including getting 17 points and six rebounds across 16 minutes in Game 6. The big man has logged at least 14 minutes off the bench in three consecutive tilts and there’s no way the Pistons go away from Reed in Game 7. The backup center has been one of the most effective players for Detroit this postseason. With Reed on the floor, the Pistons’ net rating is +15.3 per 100 possessions, which is the third-best net rating for the team.
Reed is shooting 70% from the field and he is averaging a high 27.7% usage rate this postseason. There may be some nerves for Reed given this is the first time in his career he is going to see a substantial role in a Game 7, but role players are always more comfortable at home and Reed should have another strong performance against this soft Cavaliers defense. This postseason, Cleveland ranks 12th of 16 teams in defensive rating.
Mitchell has taken a step backwards as a deep shooter this postseason. The guard is averaging 2.7 made treys per game while shooting 31% from beyond the arc after averaging 3.2 per game on 36% in the regular season. Mitchell has particularly struggled as an outside shooter vs. the Pistons’ stout defense in this series. The veteran has stayed under 2.5 made treys in 4-of-6 games and he is shooting 28.3% from deep.
During these playoffs, Detroit ranks third in defensive rating and the club is holding its opponents to the fourth-lowest three-point percentage (33.5%). The defensive intensity is going to be elevated for this Game 7 and Mitchell is a terrific bet for under 2.5 made three-pointers at this plus-money price.
Merrill scored 10 points in Game 6, but he should come back down to earth in Game 7. Merrill is only averaging 18.3 minutes per game this postseason and he has stayed under 6.5 points in 6-of-12 games. In road games, Merrill has stayed under 6.5 points in all but one of his five games, including a scoreless showing in Game 1 of this series vs. the Pistons.
Merrill could see a smaller role than usual with the Cavaliers’ starters playing huge minutes in this win-or-go-home Game 7 and Merrill shouldn’t do much scoring against Detroit’s stifling defense on its home floor.
