Bryan Armetta shares his two favorite MLB no run first inning (NRFI) prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Wednesday’s slate.
All 30 teams make up Wednesday’s 15-game MLB slate. For those looking to cash in quickly on a bet, nothing makes more sense than an NRFI. With that being said, there’s more to this one than meets the eye. Some pitchers thrive early, while others take more time to get settled in than others. Which NRFI picks are worth a closer look today?
Ahead of Wednesday’s Major League Baseball contests, here are two NRFI bets worth placing on DraftKings Sportsbook.
| Mariners vs. Pirates NRFI (-140) | Woo vs. Ashcraft |
| Yankees vs. Tigers NRFI (-145) | Weathers vs. Skubal |
It’ll be Bryan Woo toeing the slab this evening for the Mariners. Despite a few bumps in the road, it’s been another solid campaign from the right-hander. Through 89.0 innings of work (15 starts), he’s notched a 3.94 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 88 strikeouts (8.9 K/9). Last time out, the 26-year-old tossed seven scoreless innings against the Orioles. Woo tends to come out firing; he comes into tonight’s matchup on an eight-game NRFI streak. The Pirates wield one of the better scoring lineups in baseball, so this won’t be easy. However, bettors should still feel confident backing Seattle’s ace.
On the other side, Braxton Ashcraft will get the nod for Pittsburgh. For a rotation headlined by Paul Skenes, he’s given the Pirates some much-needed pitching depth. Over 90.2 innings (15 starts), the right-hander has recorded a 3.18 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 97 strikeouts (9.6 K/9). He’s fallen off a bit in recent weeks, but the 26-year-old remains dominant to begin games. During 23 career starts, Ashcraft has surrendered a first inning run only once (96% NRFI). In comparison, the Mariners are averaging the eighth-fewest runs per game in baseball (4.11). Seattle hitters have put up a .223 first inning batting average, seventh-worst in the majors.
Taking the hill for New York on Wednesday will be Ryan Weathers. The offseason acquisition has been a nice add for this dominant Yankees pitching staff. In 80.2 innings of work (14 starts), he’s accounted for a 4.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 89 strikeouts (9.9 K/9). In addition, the sixth-year pro has amassed a stellar 77% career NRFI rate. Weathers shouldn’t have much difficulty navigating a mediocre lineup tonight. Detroit is scoring 4.08 runs per game, sixth-lowest in the league. The Tigers are also hitting .222 in the first inning against left-handed pitching.
The Yankees, even without Aaron Judge (ribs), wield a formidable lineup. With that being said, the Pinstripes could find it difficult to do much at the plate this evening. It’ll be Tarik Skubal on the bump tonight, making his tenth start of the season. Despite a lengthy injury, the two-time Cy Young winner is still the American League’s best hurler. Over his previous five meetings with New York, Skubal has produced a minuscule 1.50 ERA. The Bronx Bombers have also scored 15 runs over their last five games, third-worst in baseball during that stretch.
