Alex Hunter details his best NBA player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s NBA playoff game between the Pistons and Cavaliers.
The Pistons and the Cavaliers continue their second-round series with Game 2 in Detroit on Thursday. The Pistons lead this series 1-0. On DraftKings Sportsbook, the Pistons are favored by 3.5 points and this game carries a total of 215.5 points.
Let’s dive into three of my favorite player prop bets for tonight’s contest.
Cunningham opened Game 1 with 10 points in the first quarter and in the first frame this postseason, Cunningham is leading the Pistons with 7.6 PPG and a 34.2% usage rate. Cunningham is shooting 47% from the field in the first quarter and he has scored at least seven first quarter points in 6-of-8 starts during these playoffs.
The Cavaliers rank second-to-last in defensive rating and third in pace of the remaining playoff teams, and Cunningham should start hot again in Game 2.
Mitchell just hasn’t been getting done as a playmaker this postseason. The guard only finished with two assists in Game 1 vs. the Pistons and he has stayed under 3.5 assists in 6-of-8 games. Overall, Mitchell is averaging just 2.9 assists on 7.8 potential assists per game.
James Harden dominating the ball and acting as the Cavaliers’ main playmaker is always going to hurt Mitchell in that department, and at this plus money price, backing Mitchell for 3.5 assists has a ton of merit, especially with a stout Pistons’ defense on the other side that ranks second in rating during these playoffs. With Harden on the floor this season, Mitchell’s assist rate drops 7.1 percentage points.
Harris has been sensational during these playoffs. The veteran is averaging 21.4 PPG, but don’t overlook his work on the glass, as Harris is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game. The forward is logging 35.9 minutes per game, which is a huge change from the 27.7 he averaged in the regular season.
With the big upgrade in playing time, Harris is averaging 13.8 rebound chances per game this postseason and he has grabbed at least seven rebounds in 6-of-8 games. Harris finished with eight rebounds across 38.5 minutes in Game 1 vs. the Cavaliers and this 6.5-rebound line is just too low for him right now.
