Zach Thompson gives his top teams to consider for MLB DFS stacks on Friday’s daily fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings.
Friday night, Major League Baseball has a 10-game slate on the main DFS fantasy baseball slate, which gets underway at 7:05 p.m. ET. With 20 teams in the player pool and a wide variety of weather forecasts, several lineups stand out as strong options for fantasy baseball lineups. Let’s dive into the matchups on the board and find some MLB DFS stacks to build your lineups around this Monday night.
Before we get to the individual selections for these contests, let’s define exactly what we’re searching for. An ideal target for MLB DFS stacks is a team well-positioned to score plenty of runs based on its matchup and ballpark. “Stacking” is the strategy of adding multiple players from the same MLB lineup to your roster to boost each other’s production.
Ideally, MLB DFS stacks focus on players who are either back-to-back or from the same part of the lineup to allow positive correlation. Since most run-scoring plays produce fantasy points for multiple players, stacking a high-scoring team can carry your entry to the top of the leaderboard. The key to MLB DFS stacks paying off is finding the perfect matchup to attack, so let’s take a look at Monday’s top spots to attack.

The Astros host the Cardinals on Friday night and will take on Kyle Leahy ($6,000), who is moving to the rotation this season after spending the last three years working out of the bullpen. In his three starts this season, he has allowed eight runs on 16 hits in 14 innings, while allowing a 54.2% hard-hit rate. He’s actually held righties to a .136 batting average, while lefties have hit .394 against him with a home run and a .481 wOBA.
Yordan Alvarez and Joey Loperfindo are strong options to attack those lopsided splits. Alvaraz has at least 9 FPTS in five of his last seven games while averaging 13.1 FPTS per game. He has seven homers and a 1.214 OPS on the season and is a pay-up play to consider building around at home on Friday night. Loperfido is hitting .273 with an average of 5.3 FPTS per game this season and is still looking for his first homer, even though he has two extra-base hits in his last five starts.
Jose Altuve, Cam Smith, and Carlos Correa can help round out the stack. Altuve is back to hitting leadoff typically, right in front of Alvarez. He had 12 FPTS on Thursday against Colorado and has double-digit FPTS in four of his last 10 games. Correa has hit safely in seven of his last eight games and walked twice in his only game during that span without a hit. Cam Smith is also hitting the ball well lately, going 7-for-22 over his last six games with three doubles.
The D-backs are back at Chase Field after taking two of three games in three straight series against the Mets, Phillies and the Orioles to go 6-3 on their nine-game road trip. They’ll take on lefty Eric Lauer ($7,700) and the Blue Jays on Friday night, and Lauer has allowed 11 runs on 11 hits, including three homers in his first three starts of the season. Lauer is a lefty, but both lefties and righties have had success against him in the early going this season. Lefties actually have a .515 wOBA against him, but the sample size is minuscule.
Ketel Marte is 7-for-19 (.368) with a double and two homers against Lauer in the past. Marte has hit safely in seven of his last eight games with an at-bat. He has two doubles and three homers, helping him to average 10.6 FPTS over that timespan. His double-play partner, Geraldo Perdomo, is averaging 6.6 FTPS per game on the season but produced 8.9 FPTS over his last eight games.
Ildemaro Vargas has also been heating up and has hit safely in each of his 12 games this season, going 18-for-47 (.383) with five doubles, two homers, and a 40% hard-hit rate. He’s averaging 10.3 FPTS per contest, while Jose Fernandez has hit .306 since his promotion from Triple-A and is averaging 7.3 FPTS per game.
The Twins are hosting the Reds on Friday night at Target Field, where the wind is expected to be blowing out significantly but with very cold temperatures. The Twins lineup has been a great value stack lately, and they have another good matchup against lefty Brandon Williamson ($6,800) on Friday. Williamson is 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA and 6.36 FIP in his three starts this season, and he was very fortunate to avoid more trouble in his last outing against the Angels. He walked six batters in four innings but only gave up three runs on three hits in a no-decision.
The Twins scored 24 runs in three games against the Red Sox and have been very solid at home, even against strong starters. At home, they are hitting .243 with 13 homers and a .337 wOBA. Byron Buxton led the way against Boston, going 6-for-13 with three homers in the series for an average of 19 FPTS per game. Ryan Jeffers has averaged 13.7 FPTS over his last six games as well, and he’s hitting .320 with a .435 wOBA against southpaws.
Austin Martin has hit .316 through his first 17 games this season with a .500 OBP and .947 OPS, along with a pair of stolen bases. He doesn’t offer as much power as the rest of the stack, but typically has been hitting second just behind Buxton in a premium run-production spot. He’s a solid value play if the Twins can get to Williamson on Friday night in Minneapolis.
