Love Island: Beyond The Villa Season 2 Episodes 3 and 4 Recap
(Warning: Spoilers ahead.)
Episode 3
Bryan and Amaya have a long-needed conversation, with Bryan hoping he can clear the air with the Season 7 winner so that he can hang with all the other islanders again without any awkwardness. After revealing that they haven’t seen each other since the week of the reunion, Amaya says she felt the relationship wasn’t a priority to him and there was a lack of respect. Bryan says he was trying to do all the things he always wanted and didn’t realize all the attention he would get. Bryan says he felt like he was putting on a mask for everyone and it led to him spiraling. He apologizes for not only making himself look bad, but making her look bad. The elephant is no longer in the room, and Bryan feels like a weight has been lifted off his chest. But for Amaya, that elephant may be gone, but it’s not forgotten.
Bryan, coming off his fresh start with Amaya, wants the same for his boy Pepe with Iris and T.J. Pepe says he doesn’t hate anyone and would be down to chat with them individually, not in a group setting so as not to have a repeat of the Hannah incident from the first episode. Iris on the other hand, seems like she is not open to having that conversation with Pepe and doesn’t seem to want him invited to the group trip to Palm Springs that Bryan cooks up while hanging out with Chris and Belle-A.
Charlie is back in the U.S. and is excited to hang with the Islanders, but reveals things are not good between him and Hannah. She seemed distant at the reunion, and things seem to have gotten worse since as Hannah is upset at Charlie for going on a podcast (why do all the beefs in this group come down to podcasts) and talking about their relatively short time together.
Taylor visits Clarke in Charlotte, and she is hoping that he might be more open to city life or at least some compromise between the city and the country after seeing her in that environment. She’s also considering splitting her time between Charlotte and L.A. instead of Charlotte and Oklahoma. He isn’t really open to any compromise and makes it a point to talk up all the negatives (cost, transportation) of living in L.A. Taylor wants plenty of land, and says he has his life plan figured out but Clarke doesn’t and he wants to help her figure out her bigger picture rather than just living in the moment. She wants to have big plans too, doing it in LA even if she doesn’t know what it looks like yet.
Episode 4
The group heads to Palm Springs (with entirely too much luggage) and Iris wants to throw T.J. an 80s-themed surprise party since he’s never really had a birthday party, apparently. Chris is happy for everyone to be under one roof and have good times like they did in the Villa and he’s excited to spend time with Coco, who he has been getting closer to. But, things quickly go off the rails at dinner, with everyone noting the awkwardness and tension before Hannah and Charlie finally have a needed conversation.
Here’s the thing — people tune into these shows for the mess, let’s be real. This Hannah-Charlie fight, however, was not a fun mess, it was just mess. They talked in circles, with Hannah remaining angry that Charlie talked about her on podcasts and Charlie hung up on how much cooler she was with Pepe at the reunion than him. They take this basic premise and spend an inordinate amount of time talking about, drawing in side beefs like T.J./Iris vs. Charlie and with Belle-A coming to Charlie’s defense. It felt like this fight lasted forever and a day and I’m sure there must have been plenty left on the cutting room floor. Hannah leaves crying and no one feels good at the end of night one.
The next day everyone thankfully splits up, with Jeremiah going off with Charlie, the girls hanging out in the pool and T.J. taking Chris, Bryan and Belle-A golfing. This puts into stark contrast the fact that very few of these people would still be hanging out with each other were it not for this reality show. Jeremiah seems like the one person who would legit hang out with everyone, but outside of him these people should probably not be spending extended time with the larger group at this point.
To that end, because he is friendly with everyone, Jeremiah finds himself in a tough spot — he wants to make sure Charlie doesn’t feel isolated, but he also wants to make sure Hannah is OK. He says he wishes he could have mediated more the prior night, and that he wants to be there for both of them and not take sides. We’ll see how that goes if Charlie hangs around more for the rest of the season, even if T.J. says he and Iris cleared the air with Charlie after the big fight.
Belle-A would love to be friends with everyone, but it’s clear she’s not in the “in” group with the girls. Amaya basically says Belle-A’s closeness with Bryan makes her not a girl’s girl and Belle-A is feeling excluded from the girls and her desire to be friends with everyone has created division. She notes that her desire to be friends with everyone may stem from past experiences being cast aside, but being invited to hang with the guys makes her feel better. It’s short-lived, however, as during T.J.’s party, she once again notes how all the people she has said she was closest to probably wouldn’t even mention her if asked the same thing. Specifically, she notes she was very close with Hannah post-Villa, but now it seems like Hannah’s attention has shifted to other people. Gracyn and Coco are also feeling excluded from the girl group, with Gracyn wondering if her and Coco’s status as Casa girls is partly to blame.
Speaking of T.J.’s party, the girls (or production) definitely put more effort into making their outfits match the theme. I mean, Charlie and Bryan look more like something out of the 1990s than 1980s. Kudos to Jeremiah though for going for it with that wig. No kudos to T.J. and Iris, however, for seemingly leaving early the next day before anyone has cleaned up the mess.
After all the drama of the trip, Hannah seems to be ready to put the past in the past with Charlie, even if she still seems kinda angry at him. She says she doesn’t need to be friends with him or even ever see him again. But at the very least they can be civil. Will that civility last?
