Boston Red Sox vs. Texas Rangers prediction, pick for MLB...
Dan Johnson · 2026-06-15 · via DraftKings Network

Dan Johnson takes you through his preview, prediction, and best bet for today’s baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers.

Sunday night gives baseball a clean primetime window at Fenway Park, where the Red Sox suddenly have a home crowd again. Boston enters chasing a sweep after 10-1 and 6-3 wins over Texas, its first home series win since April. That is a modest achievement with a 29-39 record, but the mood shifted quickly. Ceddanne Rafaela delivered Friday’s homer and Saturday’s go-ahead single, while Jarren Duran added late breathing room. The Rangers are 34-36, limping toward the end of a road trip, and still searching for the hit that turns traffic into damage. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Red Sox vs. Rangers prediction, preview

Nathan Eovaldi can absolutely mute that script for stretches, because his current version has craft behind it. He is throwing his split-finger nearly 38% of the time, with a cutter, curveball, four-seamer, and sinker behind it. That arsenal has still produced 77 strikeouts against 20 walks over 80.1 innings. The damage, however, has been too loud to ignore. Eovaldi brings a 4.26 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 15 homers allowed, 1.68 HR/9, 4.59 FIP, and 19.5% HR/FB rate into a warm Fenway night. Statcast is even less forgiving, with a 90.7 mph average exit velocity allowed, 47.5% hard-hit rate, .330 xwOBA, .443 xSLG, and 8.2% barrel rate. Boston may chase the splitter, but the cutter and fastball mistakes can leave quickly here.

The Red Sox lineup has enough concentrated heat to make that profile uncomfortable. Willson Contreras is carrying the cleanest power case with a .401 wOBA, .390 xwOBA, 90 mph average exit velocity, 44.5% hard contact, and 14.8% barrel rate. Wilyer Abreu brings a .330 wOBA, .342 xwOBA, 89.7 mph average exit velocity, 43% hard contact, and 11.6% barrels. Rafaela is the heartbeat of the weekend, pairing a .291 average, 14 doubles, and seven steals with the two biggest swings of the series. Duran’s June has been uneven, but Saturday’s two-run homer changed the inning immediately. That top half gives Boston several paths to five runs without needing a clean night from the bottom third.

Texas is not whole, and pretending otherwise would be lazy. Corey Seager is day-to-day, Evan Carter is on the IL, and Michael Helman is out with hand fractures. The Rangers also loaded the bases four times Saturday, went 0-for-4 in those spots, and fell to 1-for-10 with the bases loaded on the road trip. That is ugly baseball, but it is also a sign they are reaching the pressure points. Connelly Early gives them another chance. His 3.30 ERA and 1.23 WHIP look stable, but the foundation is shaky: 4.75 FIP, 4.21 xFIP, 3.42 BB/9, 1.52 HR/9, .225 BABIP, and an 87.9% strand rate. Statcast adds a 90.7 mph exit velocity allowed, 43.5% hard-hit rate, .337 xwOBA, and 12.4% barrels. Brandon Nimmo’s .371 xwOBA and 51.7% hard-hit rate fit that crack. Josh Jung adds a .364 wOBA, .350 xwOBA, and .307 average, while Jake Burger brings 12 homers and fresh power after going deep Saturday.

Rangers vs. Red Sox pick, best bet

The run environment pushes this from possible to playable. Boston is 84 degrees around first pitch, still 79 by 9 p.m., and rain should hold off until after midnight. Warm Fenway can turn ordinary contact into awkward wall-ball math, especially when both starters carry home-run leakage. The under case deserves respect, because Texas owns a strong bullpen, and Boston has late stability with Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman. That is also why the first-five over at -135 is a pass. Texas ranks 20th in first-five runs per game, and Boston sits 25th. Paying premium juice for early fireworks asks too much from two inconsistent offenses.

The full-game total gives the better path. Eovaldi’s pitch mix can buy him innings, but Boston’s hottest bats match his contact problem. Early can survive with strikeouts and strand rate, but Texas has been creating traffic and finally gets a lefty with walk and barrel risk. Fenway gets the national stage, the weather helps carry, and both lineups have enough top-half thump to make nine feel reachable. The moneyline prices are thin, and the first-five number is taxed.

Best Bet: Over 9 at -114, playable to -120.

Sox win and take the series. Red Sox 6, Rangers 5.

Best bet: Red Sox vs. Rangers o9.0 total runs (-115)
