Alex Hunter breaks down his favorite WNBA player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday night’s two-game slate.
The WNBA season continues Thursday night with a two-game slate. The Wings are hosting the Lynx and the Fire are hosting the Liberty. Below, I have featured three of my favorite WNBA player prop bets for these contests on DraftKings Sportsbook.
With Sabrina Ionescu (foot) out to begin this season, Stewart has been putting up big numbers as the Liberty’s clear centerpiece. The former MVP is averaging 23.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Stewart is also logging 35 minutes per game and handling a 30.8% usage rate. All these numbers are career-highs for the decorated superstar and she has reached 31 PR in 2-of-3 starts.
That one outlier came against the Fire on Tuesday, when Stewart posted 16 points and 10 rebounds. The veteran will face Portland again tonight, but the Fire holding Stewart to just 16 points again is unlikely. She went just 4-of-12 from the field in the first matchup, which was a rare sight for Stewart, as she is shooting 45% from the field over the last two seasons. Additionally, Portland has been dreadful on defense so far this season, ranking dead last in defensive rating and the expansion team is giving up the most rebounds per game in the league. Stewart should bounce back with a big performance tonight and reach 31 PR.
Bueckers has started this season scoring 20 and 17 points in her first two starts. The UConn product is logging 32 minutes per game, but Bueckers usage is down to 18.9% after seeing a 24.7% rate last season. This is only two games of data, but Arike Ogunbowale being healthy again certainly affects Bueckers’ role. In the 24 games these two have played together the last two seasons, Bueckers is averaging 18.6 PPG with a 23% usage rate, compared to 20 PPG and a 26.9% usage rate in the 14 she has played with Ogunbowale inactive.
Another concern for tonight is that Bueckers is facing the Lynx. While Minnesota ranks eighth in defensive rating through it’s first two games this season, this club lead the WNBA in defensive rating for the majority of last season. Bueckers faced the Lynx twice with Ogunbowale active and Bueckers was held to just 10 and 12 points in those matchups. 19.5 points is just too high of a line for her in this spot and Bueckers should fall short of this number.
Leite was taken third overall by the Fire in the expansion draft and she has thrived with a larger role in Portland, scoring 18 points vs. the Sky and 21 points vs. the Liberty, who she will face again tonight. Leite ranks second for the Fire in minutes per game at 27 and her usage has been at a team-high 30%.
Leite has hoisted up 11 and 14 shots and she is shooting 44% from the field. This 15.5-point line is just too low for Leite’s newfound role with Portland and she should have another strong showing tonight vs. New York.
