CJ McCollum, Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks ($6,700)
McCollum is a wily veteran with 69 career playoff games under his belt. He has decent size at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds. While the defense isn’t good, McCollum can still get buckets with the best of them. In the first two games of this series, he shot 11-for-20 and 12-for-22 from the floor, finishing with 26 and 32 points, respectively. Most importantly, he played 34 and 35 minutes. McCollum is a decent playmaker and will dish out his fair share of dimes, and he’s even been contributing defensive stats. He went for 32.8 and 51.2 FPTS in the first two games. The most likely outcome is in the 30 FPTS range, which is fine because we’re trying to save salary in order to fit Nikola Jokic. There’s the added bonus of another ceiling game.
Other Options: Jamal Murray ($8,900), Anthony Edwards ($8,800), Donovan Mitchell ($8,700), James Harden ($8,600), Jalen Brunson ($8,500), Brandon Ingram ($7,100), Nickeil Alexander-Walker ($6,800), Josh Hart ($6,300)
Bruce Brown, Denver Nuggets at Minnesota Timberwolves ($3,800)
In Game 1, Brown played 21 minutes and contributed 31.2 FPTS. In Game 2, he only received 16 minutes of run and finished with 14.2 FPTS. I’m not expecting more than 20 minutes for Brown in this one, but he’s one of the few players priced below $4,000 that will likely have a floor in the teens. As Game 1 showed, there’s also some upside if things come together from his ability to contribute in every statistical category.
Other Options: Donte DiVincenzo ($5,100), Christian Braun ($4,900)
Josh Hart, New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks ($6,300)
Hart is a low-usage player who has a wide range out outcomes. We know he’s going to grab boards because he’s one of the best pound-for-pound, inch-for-inch rebounders in the game. Due to his hustle and energy, he’s also going to contribute defensive stats, but those can be fickle. He’s a good passer and can dish out his fair share of dimes, but because of the low usage rate, he doesn’t always have the ball in his hands. That also affects the points. So, there’s always a chance he finishes in the 20 FPTS range or below. That said, he’s had some massive fantasy games this season, putting up over 50 FPTS four times. He’s cleared 40 FPTS in the first two games of this series, playing 37 and 34 minutes. Salary relief and upside are what I’m looking for at the position.
Other Options: Karl-Anthony Towns ($8,400), Scottie Barnes ($8,100), Evan Mobley ($7,600), Julius Randle ($7,200), RJ Barrett ($6,500)
Collin Murray-Boyles, Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers ($4,300)
It’s been a three-headed monster in Toronto’s frontcourt this season when all of Murray-Boyles, Jakob Poeltl and Sandro Mamukelashvili have been healthy. That’s limited CMB to around 20 minutes a night, but when he’s been on the court, he’s been very productive. In Game 1, he finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists in 20 minutes. After the game, I wrote that CMB could see an uptick in minutes because Poeltl got played off the court. That’s exactly what happened. He played 26 minutes and amassed 30.8 FPTS in Game 2, while Poeltl played only nine minutes. Murray-Boyles doesn’t have Poeltl’s size, but he’s more versatile defensively and has the strength to affect the paint on both ends of the floor.
Other Options: Aaron Gordon ($6,000), OG Anunoby ($5,900), Jaden McDaniels ($5,700), Jonathan Kuminga ($4,700)
Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets at Minnesota Timberwolves ($12,700)
Jokic “only” finished with 62.8 and 57.2 FPTS in the first two games of the series. I don’t care — I don’t care! He’s a triple-double threat on any given night, and he boasts the highest floor/ceiling combo in the NBA.
Other Options: Karl-Anthony Towns ($8,400), Evan Mobley ($7,600)
Aaron Gordon, Denver Nuggets at Minnesota Timberwolves ($6,000)
After dealing with hamstring issues all season and suffering a back injury in Game 1, Gordon played 37 minutes in Game 2. The shooting efficiency was off, which isn’t surprising, but he heads into Game 3 with two full days of rest. I’m expecting Gordon to be recharged for this one. Playing alongside Jokic affords plenty of opportunities to rack up fantasy goodies. As long as he stays healthy and out of foul trouble, Gordon could finish somewhere in the 30 FPTS range.
Other Options: Onyeka Okongwu ($5,900), Collin Murray-Boyles ($4,300)
