Like Andreeva, she is a great doubles player as well. Kostyuk has made two Grand Slam semi-finals in doubles and has made a quarter-final in singles at the 2024 Australian Open. However, this marks Kostyuk’s first-ever trip to a WTA 1000 final.

Kostyuk is coming off her second-ever WTA singles title. She won the ATP 250 event in France, the Open de Rouen. That was a great showing from her clay, although all of the top players, including Andreeva, were in Stuttgart at the ATP 500 event that week. Despite the lesser competition, Kostyuk must be full of confidence in how she can perform on clay heading into this final.

My best bet for this match is for Marta Kostyuk to pull off the upset. Kostyuk has yet to lose a match on clay this year. She has now won 10 consecutive matches on this surface coming into this final. Kostyuk will be full of confidence and determined to win the biggest title of her career. This is undoubtedly the biggest match of Kostyuk’s career, and at 23 years old, it’s time to prove it.

The Ukrainian has performed well against top-10 players this year. She started this year with an incredible run in the Brisbane International, defeating three of the top 10 players in the world en route to the final, where she lost to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Kostyuk was knocked out of both Miami and Indian Wells by Elena Rybakina, nothing to scoff at. She followed that up by winning the Open de Rouen and defeating World No. 5 Jessica Pegula en route to this final in Madrid.

One of the top-10 players that Kostyuk defeated on the way to the Brisbane International final was Andreeva. That quarter-final match was the first and only career meeting between these two players.
