Zach Thompson details his best player prop bets for Monday’s NBA playoff matchup between the 76ers and the Knicks.
The second round of the NBA Playoffs tips off on Monday night, beginning with the Philadelphia 76ers traveling to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference showdown. Let’s take a look at a few of the best player prop bets from this Game 1 matchup between the Sixers and the Knicks, tipping off at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC/Peacock.
The Knicks are 7.5-point home favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, with the game total at O/U 212.5 points. In the futures market, the Knicks are +850 to win the NBA Finals, while the 76ers are +4000. To win the series, the Knicks are -270 favorites, while the Sixers are +220 to advance to move on to the Eastern Conference Finals.
It looks like both teams will be mostly healthy at the start of the series, according to the injury report. Jeremy Sochan is probable for the Knicks, while Joel Embiid is probable and Tyrese Maxey is available. With both teams running their regular rotations on Monday, which Sixers-Knicks player prop bets make sense this Monday? Let’s dive in!
Edgecombe was exceptional in the Sixers’ seven-game series win over the Celtics, averaging 15.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and logging 38 minutes per contest. The rookie came up huge in must-win matchups in Game 6 and Game 7, and he produced over this prop line in each of those contests.
In Game 6, he had 25 PRA (points, rebounds and assists) in 38 minutes, and in Game 7, he had 33 PRA while playing 44 minutes. Edgecombe went over this prop line four times in his last six games in the series, falling just short with 20 PRA in Game 5.
Against the Knicks this season, Edgecombe had 30 and 32 PRA in his two trips to Madison Square Garden, both in games his team won. In the two games at home, the Sixers lost and Edgecombe had 21 and 20 PRA.
With more work as a defensive force in addition to his multi-category upside, Edgecombe has a great chance to continue his breakout postseason with at least 21 PRA in Game 1. You can also use this as a ladder and add a little on 25 PRA (+163) and even 30 PRA (+422) if you’re confident the rookie will come to play against the Knicks.
On the other side of the matchup, Bridges had a quiet series against the Hawks before breaking out for a monster Game 6. In that standout performance, he had 24 points, five rebounds and three assists for 32 PRA in the Knicks’ historic rout of the Hawks.
However, in each of the first five games in the series, Bridges came in under this prop line, averaging just 10 PRA per game. He only had three PRA in a disappointing Game 3 and was under 15 PRA in every game until his big Game 6.
Bridges was over this prop line in three of his four matchups during the season against the Sixers, but his role has been much smaller in the playoffs as the Knicks lean more heavily on their other offensive options.
Maxey stepped up when the Sixers needed him most with 30 points in Game 6 at home and 30 points in Game 7 on the road to move them on to the next round. He averaged 28.2 points per game during the regular season and 26.9 points per game in his first seven games this postseason.
Maxey had at least 25 points in five of his last six games against Boston, and he had 30 and 36 points in his two trips this season to Madison Square Garden. He had 22 points and 32 points in his other two matchups against New York during the regular season.
Even with Joel Embiid back and carrying a big part of the offense, Maxey is getting plenty of chances to get over this scoring prop, and with a favorable matchup against Jalen Brunson on defense, look for him to put up plenty of points in this series as well.
If you’re building an SGP (Same Game Parlay) for Game 1, adding in the over on Anunoby’s rebounds boosts the odds up to a strong +1000 for the four Sixers-Knicks bets in this post.
Anunoby averaged 5.6 rebounds per game during the regular season, but he has done more work on the glass in the postseason. He went over this prop line in each of his six games against the Hawks, averaging 8.7 boards per game. He only went over this prop in one of his three matchups against the Sixers in the regular season, but since he’s doing more work on the board in the postseason, I love getting the value at almost even money of OG getting at least seven rebounds Monday night.
