Philips Hue smart lights now react to live sports events ...
Zac Hall · 2026-06-10 · via 9to5Mac

Signify, the firm behind Philips Hue, is launching a new Sports Live feature that connects lighting effects to real-time live sports data. The new feature arrives in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup kickoff.

Sports Live brings real-time match sync to Philips Hue lights

The company says the new Sports Live feature started rolling out in May ahead of the full release this month. The feature allows smart lights to react to in-game moments to create a more immersive viewing experience.

Sports Live uses live match data to trigger real-time lighting effects for key moments such as goals, red cards and yellow cards, extending the action beyond the screen and into the home. Easy to set up and arriving in time for the world’s biggest soccer event of the year, Sports Live makes watching soccer at home feel more immersive than ever.

Signify adds that users are able to select a preferred team and assign color-changing lights to the Sports Live feature. From there, the feature works automatically without the need for specialized hardware or connecting other services.

The feature includes the ability to time lighting effects for broadcast delays with the ability to pause and resume automatically. Signify further explains what to expect from smart lighting effects with Sports Live:

During quieter periods of play, the action remains engaging as home lighting systems intelligently adapt to the game state, displaying a favorite team’s color, the leading team’s color, or a warm white when the score is tied, creating a consistently personalized viewing experience.

In April, Signify enhanced the smart lighting experience with the launch of a new immersive feature called SpatialAware. Signify also recently launched an upgraded Philips Hue Bridge Pro with even more capabilities.

June 9, 2026:

Philips Hue for iPhone now includes Sports Live and a new Bridge group feature, per the release notes:

  • A new Bridge group is now available in your Home dashboard, bringing all devices and automations in one place. You can now create scenes for the entire bridge and can hide or reorder groups via the edit option.
  • Sports Live is now available for everyone! Select matches & your room and feel the excitement!

Download it from the App Store to add the new features.
