First two episodes of Widow’s Bay now available on Apple TV

Widow’s Bay, Apple’s newest horror-comedy starring Matthew Rhys (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, The Post) is now available to stream on Apple TV. Here’s what to expect.

Widow’s Bay premieres on Apple TV

Last December, Apple announced Widow’s Bay, a new comedic horror series created by Katie Dippold (Parks and Recreation, Ghostbusters), with several episodes of its 10-episode run directed by Hiro Murai (Atlanta, Mr. & Mrs. Smith).

More recently, the company published a few teasers and sneak peeks, like the slightly unsettling video below:

Now, Widow’s Bay is available to stream for Apple TV subscribers, with a slight difference from Apple’s original announcement.

Last year, the company said that the first three episodes of the show would premiere on April 29. However, the company released the first two episodes tonight, with the remaining eight scheduled to air every Wednesday through June 17.

Here’s what to expect from Widow’s Bay, according to Apple TV:

“Widow’s Bay” is a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true, start happening again. “Widow’s Bay” blends genuine horror with character-driven comedy.

A few days ago, the first reviews for Widow’s Bay were released, with most critics praising its genre-bending mix of tones and styles. RogerEbert.com referred to Widow’s Bay as “truly unlike anything else on TV,” while Decider called it “a hauntingly good horror comedy”.
