Apple TV’s hit sci-fi show Severance had a three-year gap between seasons 1 and 2, but star Adam Scott now says season 3 will arrive “much sooner” than that. Here’s what he said, and what it means for release timing.
Severance star Adam Scott was at the BAFTA TV awards over the weekend, where Apple TV’s The Studio made history for completing its sweep of major comedy awards.
In an interview with Deadline on the red carpet, Scott confirmed that Severance season 3 starts shooting “very soon.” But it’s what he said about release timing that’s more newsworthy.
Scott was asked if Severance fans can expect a shorter wait for season 3 than the three-year gap between seasons 1 and 2.
The actor first shared that it’s “more important for it to be great than for it to be fast.” But then he had good news on timing:
“We’re definitely planning on getting it out much sooner than the last round, which was three years, which is too long.”
Season 2 premiered in January 2025. So another three-year gap would mean a January 2028 premiere.
If Scott is right and season 3 arrives “much sooner” than its predecessor, you have to assume that means at least a six-month earlier premiere.
That would mean Severance season 3 premieres in mid-2027—or possibly earlier.
Personally, I think any earlier than mid-next year is highly unlikely. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the premiere slips into fall 2027.
But it’s good to hear that, at least for now, Severance’s creative team feels confident the gap will be a lot shorter than last time.
