For World Water Day, we’re releasing our 2026 Water Stewardship Project Portfolio summary report and highlighting new partnerships that are replenishing water and improving water quality and ecosystem health.

This World Water Day, we’re excited to share an update on our efforts to replenish more freshwater than we consume, on average, across our offices and data centers by 2030 and help improve watershed health in the communities where we operate. This work goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to advance responsible water use as the demand for digital services grows.

Here are some highlights from our 2025 project portfolio:

  • Replenished more than 7 billion gallons in 2025 alone.

These efforts are helping improve the quality and reliability of water for the communities where we operate — from the high plains of Texas to the bogs of Ireland — while improving the health of critical landscapes and ecosystems. Supporting farmers with innovations in agriculture

In 2025, we scaled advanced irrigation technologies and new techniques to reduce agricultural water stress.

  • In the Colorado River Basin, we are partnering with the Gila River Indian Community to deploy Rubicon Water smart sensors to conserve water, retain water in Lake Mead and provide economic benefits to the farmers.
  • In Brazil’s Tietê Basin, our collaboration with Agua Segura and Agrow Analytics will use AI to optimize agricultural water timing.
  • In Indiana, we are working with The Nature Conservancy to promote the adoption of cover crops, which help retain water and improve water quality. Farmers across nine counties will be eligible for a discount on crop insurance premiums by utilizing cover crops.

Restoring healthier watersheds

In addition to helping scale advanced water stewardship technologies to promote water conservation in irrigation, we invested in nature-based projects to bolster biodiversity and water quality.

  • In Ireland, we are supporting Peatland Finance Ireland’s large-scale restoration efforts in the Wicklow Mountains. By raising the water table in these bogs, these projects are expected to enhance their biodiversity and water-holding capacity and reduce local flood risks.
  • In California, we’re working with the Yosemite Rivers Alliance to reconnect the Tuolumne River to its floodplains, creating vital habitats for fish including native Chinook salmon and steelhead trout.
  • In Taiwan, we are working with Hsinchu City and the Ministry of Environment to improve the Touqian River’s water quality using a natural gravel filtering system to remove pollutants from the river.

Building smarter urban water infrastructure

As cities grow, smart infrastructure becomes a necessity to meet their growing water demands while protecting the health of the ecosystems that sustain them.

  • In Mons, Belgium, we are supporting the installation of Shayp’s IoT leak detection across 240 public buildings, enabling timely repairs that will save both water and municipal funds.
  • In Bengaluru, India, we’ve partnered with FluxGen to deploy an AI-powered "Water Intelligence Suite" in schools. This system identifies inefficiencies while educating students on responsible water management.
  • In Virginia, we are supporting the installation of Continuous Monitoring and Adaptive Control technology on stormwater detention ponds, which uses data to control the release of water for flood protection and improved water quality.

Every drop we save or replenish, and every initiative that improves water quality or ecosystem health, is part of a larger story — one of shared responsibility, collaboration and innovation to address local water challenges.
