Ertech has been awarded the contract for the $180 million project, which Labor promised before the March 2023 state election.

The work is due to begin in the second half of 2026 and be completed by the end of 2028.

Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart said the design had been developed to respond to the challenging terrain, including steep cliffs and dense vegetation, while incorporating measures to manage environmental impacts and improve koala safety outcomes.

Community consultation on the project's Review of Environmental Factors was conducted in late 2025.

KURNELL COMMEMORATION

About 280 students from 19 schools across Sutherland Shire are expected to attend the Meeting of Two Cultures commemoration and community event at Kurnell on Wednesday April 29, from 10am to midday.

The event is held each year in Kamay Botany Bay National Park on the anniversary of the arrival in 1770 of the HMB Endeavour and the first contact between Europeans and Aboriginal people on the east coast of Australia.

Sutherland Shire Council hosts the commemoration with La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council and NSW Parks and Wildlife Service.

Indigenous singer/ songwriter Kevin Bennett, front man for Sydney roots band The Flood, will perform.

There will also be cultural performances and demonstrations, educational workshops, a free community BBQ and stalls.
